Thank god! I was wondering when we'd see more of these!

Re: Latest Living Stereo SACDs announced - operas
If they show up on yourmusic.com, I might actually buy one just to try to understand why titles like those can be released but we can't get popular music released on SACD.

Three reasons I can think of off the top of my head:
One--little to no royalty issues--the performers are dead and the music is not really copyrighted anymore
Two--None of these is "re-mixed". The master tapes are captured either in their original 3 track (or sometimes 2 track) form in DSD. According to the liner notes, no equalization or other processing is done. So, a simpler task than creating modern pop music releases. (These tapes were going to be archived in DSD anyway--which, as I understand it, was the original purpose of DSD technology).
Three--Classical music buyers, on average, care more about sound quality than the general public--so the companies are more confident about making sales.

I understand that although I don't know the performers are dead, but certainly the composers are. I guess I can't see how these releases can be profitable despite some savings in costs. The discs need to sell in some acceptable quantities. Maybe there is a bigger market for opera than I have imagined.

Re: Latest Living Stereo SACDs announced - operas
I think the point that classical music fans are more into high-end audio than most pop fans (who are happy to listen to low-rez downloaded music through $2 earbuds) shouldn't be overlooked.
Most pop fans probably don't even know what "SACD" is.

I guess that pretty well sums it up. SACD can be a significant portion of a tiny market and do better than it does as an insignificant portion of a large market.

Re: Latest Living Stereo SACDs announced - operas
Any idea if these will follow suit with pricing? I know I've paid like $11 for each of the Living Stereo's I own, but they're all one disc, hope these don't get bumped up to $22.
However, they are solid selections.
