the summer 2006 concert season thread.
post reviews of shows that you have seen this summer
last show i went to was pearl jam in dc last tuesday
the show was fucking amazing. i was in the 200 section towards the back of the sides but i could still see them fine. They played with an amazing amount of energy compared to the one show that is on dvd (live in nyc, Vedder looks like he's a little bit sick on that show) I really liked how they started betterman with the keyboard player instead of the traditional vedder guitar. when someone posts the setlist, they can anwser this question, but what was the second to last song played (vedder dedicated the song to dick cheney.) while the show stared out playing alot of radio hits, they backed off them about half way through the first set. Also surprised that they only played two songs from ten "even flow" and "alive". also, no
"daughter", "rocken in the free world", "baba o ryley" and almost nothing from riot act. My Morning Jacket was ok, but for some reason I couldn't get into them. There was also a preset song with Eddie just on an accoustic guitar. So I really enjoyed the show.
here's a look at my summer concert schedule
june 24
Dope w/ Bleed the Sky - A New Revolution - Makeshift Romeo at recher theatre
july 12

july 21
Kottonmouth Kings w/Hed P.E at rams head live

Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you

The only thing that I really have time to see this summer is Ozzfest in Indy. I was only going for System of a Down, but I'm pretty stoked about Avenged Sevenfold. Should be interesting.

is ozzy playing your date? He's playing mine, but I don't know if the rumor that he was doing second stage is true or if thats just for one date.
Also, would you happen to know how long the main stage acts play for? Also, apparently soad is taking a very long break after ozzfest is done.

Yah, that's why I bought a ticket for this year's show. I'm a huge SOAD fan, and can't pass up one last chance to see them live (for the foreseeable future). No Ozzy at my show.

Re: the summer 2006 concert season thread.
I've never seen Lynyrd Skynyrd live, but they are coming to my area soon, and I am interested. Could somebody please tell me what to expect from this year's tour?

Re: the summer 2006 concert season thread.
I've got tix to The Futureheads, Matt Costa, Dave Matthews Band (Fenway and Randall's Island), Steely Dan/Michael McDonald, a bunch of free shows happening I plan to take advantage of (Seu Jorge, Mates of State, Belle & Sebastian...), and a few other shows I'm debating buying tickets for - Calexico/The New Pornographers, Galactic/Umphrey's McGee

Re: the summer 2006 concert season thread.
I saw the Kenny Chesney show at Glendale Arena last night.
Carrie Underwood: She has a fine voice, but she's just not a natural-born performer. I had trouble understanding the lyrics most of the time, so either the sound mix or the enunciation was a problem. She could stand to learn a few things from her tourmates about creative lighting. Hers was not in sync with the music, and it just seemed uninspired.
Dierks Bentley: I saw him when he toured with George Strait, and he has sure come a long way since then. His lighting and sound were top-notch, and the entire show was high-energy. The only ballads he sang were radio singles, which was just fine for the party atmosphere that night. If his career continues as it is, he should be a big draw as a headliner in a couple of years.
Kenny Chesney: We were sitting at the back of the arena, so we were pleasantly surprised to see him enter from a rising platform behind the sound board. The best way I can describe his show is a feast for the senses. His stage is relatively large, and lights are used in just about every conceivable place. His music is wonderful, and he played my favorite song of his, "Anything But Mine," to perfection. The only bad part of the show (to me) is that Uncle Kracker overstayed his welcome. The duet and "Nobody Just Like Me" were fine, but when they started "Cowboy," I was inwardly groaning. Although he says he likes to change up his shows from year to year, certain traditions are still in place. The intro video, "How Forever Feels" before the encore, and "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" plus a jam to close the show are still present, for better or for worse. I would like to see "Living in Fast Forward" as an encore song someday to change it up. Kenny can sing well, but it's his charisma and energy that make the show special.
Next concert I'll see: Dwight Yoakam, Pat Green, Jason Aldean, Jake Owen, and Erin (plus fireworks)

Re: the summer 2006 concert season thread.
Saw Staind w/ POD, Taproot and Flyleaf. Good show overall. Staind was pretty good, but the LED lighting or whatever it was was more or less blinding. Pretty standard set, good show as always. POD kicked @$$. They put on an excellent show and I would go see them again. They know how to get the crowd involved, not to mention they came out and hung out just behind the main floor crowd after their set Taproot - not really a fan of them, but a decent show. The lead singer walked all over the place and sang pretty well. Flyleaf, who I had never heard of before, impressed me enough that I went and bought their CD. That's a lot of lungs for such a small chick. Not a long set, and I couldn't understand most of it, but it was good.
