Just wondering if anyone knows the status of this title (released today) regarding copy protection. Does it contain Sony's now infamous Rootkit DRM software? I'd like to know before I plunk down my $25, because if it does I'll be boycotting the release. Any and all info is appreciated.

Amazon has not listed it as copy protected (yet) but one has to assume that the rootkit is there. They would not have had time to remaster the CD since this was all blown up in the news.

Sorry to Bruce, but I hope this one flops in the marketplace - however, most consumers probably are not aware and will buy it anyways.

Thanks for the feedback Paul. From what I understand Sony hasn't used the rootkit software on all of their new titles, hence the reason for my question. I'm assuming the worst though.

that would be to assume that all or even the majority of Sony/BMG releases were copy protected in this way which is totally false. There is a small group of titles (available via a search) that contain this protection.

What I'm hoping is that someone who's actually purchased the set can authoritatively confirm or deny the presence of rootkit DRM on this title. I don't know if that list is up to date and I'd rather not chance it.

There's no mention of copy protection on this set so i'd say there is none.

Do you have it Kevin? With the stunts that Sony's been pulling lately I don't want to assume anything.

Cool. That's exactly the kind of concrete information I was looking for. Thanks!

From the Electronic Frontier Foundation website:

An EFF investigation confirmed XCP software on the following titles:

Trey Anastasio, Shine (Columbia)
Celine Dion, On ne Change Pas (Epic)
Neil Diamond, 12 Songs (Columbia)
Our Lady Peace, Healthy in Paranoid Times (Columbia)
Chris Botti, To Love Again (Columbia)
Van Zant, Get Right with the Man (Columbia)
Switchfoot, Nothing is Sound (Columbia)
The Coral, The Invisible Invasion (Columbia)
Acceptance, Phantoms (Columbia)
Susie Suh, Susie Suh (Epic)
Amerie, Touch (Columbia)
Life of Agony, Broken Valley (Epic)
Horace Silver Quintet, Silver's Blue (Epic Legacy)
Gerry Mulligan, Jeru (Columbia Legacy)
Dexter Gordon, Manhattan Symphonie (Columbia Legacy)
The Bad Plus, Suspicious Activity (Columbia)
The Dead 60s, The Dead 60s (Epic)
Dion, The Essential Dion (Columbia Legacy)
Natasha Bedingfield, Unwritten (Epic)

This is not a complete list and Sony-BMG continues to refuse to make such a list available to consumers. Consumers can spot CDs with XCP by inspecting a CD closely, checking the left transparent spine on the front of the case for a label that says "CONTENT PROTECTED." The back of these CDs also mention XCP in fine print. You can find pictures of these and other telltale labeling at http://www.eff.org/IP/DRM/Sony-BMG/.
