Help me choose my first SACD's!
Just picked up a couple of new toys a couple days ago. Upgraded my reciever from a Denon 2802 to a 3805. I also, on a bit of a whim upgraded the Toshiba SD5700 DVD Audio player to a Denon DVD 1920 DVD Audio/SACD combo player. I have about 8 DVD Audio discs that I really enjoy (including Fleetwood Mac Rumours, Metallica Black, Crowded House, Shania Twain, Foreigner 4, The best of REM and Eagles Hotel California) but now its time to finally start looking in the SACD section
I'm mostly into rock, I see Dire Straits Brothers in Arms is available and some Pink Floyd would be nice. Any other recomendations? What are some overall great sounding SACD discs available?
Thanks all.

"Dark Side Of The Moon" is, of course, a must have, but unfortunately is the only Floyd currently available on SACD.
All of the available Elton John releases are great. The Bob Dylan SACDs are fine too. Discs like "Blonde On Blonde" and "Blood On The Tracks" are must-haves anyway.
For newer music, Peter Gabriel's "Up" and Beck's "Sea Change" are both stunning examples of what a well-done surround mix can do to enhance the listening experience.
And if you're willing to take a detour off the rock road into "newgrass", Alison Krauss & Union Station "Live" is two discs chock full of gorgeous music impeccibly played, and may possibly be the best sounding disc in my entire collection (2400+ CDs, SACDs, & DVD-As). It really sounds like the band is in the room with you.

I understand the Dylan and Stones discs are no longer being made. So if there are any of those that you want, it should be something to consider sooner vs. later. As far as rock goes, there's the Kinks, the Police, stuff like the Animals greatest hits, Roxy Music's Avalon, Tommmy by the Who and Creedance Clearwater stuff just to name some. If you go to http://www.sa-cd.net/home and click on "titles" you can do a search by musical genre.

The Cardigans - Long Gone Before Daylight has a nice 5.1 mix, especially if you like the softer side of the band.

My understanding (could be wrong but seem to recall reading somewhere) all of the Sony single layer discs have been discontinued too. Tower has begun selling a lot of imports for very expensive prices. So perhaps they are just not going to be available in the US?

From what I read, the multi-channel version of Toto IV has a new hi-rez stereo mix. I only have the stereo version of the SACD and, in my opinion, it's very good.
You should consider getting some import SACDs....
Simple Minds - The Best of
Simple Minds - New Gold Dream
Simple Minds - Once Upon A Time
Mark Knopfler - Shangdri-La
Spandau Ballet - True
Also highly recommended, Keane's "Hopes and Fears" and John Denver's "The Best of John Denver: Live".

David Bowie's Heathen.
It is indeed "Classic Bowie, circa 2000". There's also an SACD of Bowie's Reality but Heathen is a much better SACD.
