I sort of lost interest in KB after her 3rd or 4th album-it just got too bland IMHO.

Wow, that's bizarre to me. Her first two albums were original and unique, but still fairly mainstream. She started really pushing the envelope on her 3rd album
Never Forever which has all kinds of strange things on it, such as the anti-nuclear mini-epic "Breathing" and an anti-war song sung to a lilting waltz ("Army Dreamers").
Then for her 4th,
The Dreaming she threw away the envelope. It's the most UN-bland album I can imagine. If you think
The Dreaming is bland, with (brilliant) experimental bizarreness like the song "The Dreaming," "Sat In Your Lap," "Pull Out The Pin" (it's from the point of view of a Viet Cong, for heaven sakes!), "Get Out Of My House" (inspired by the book The Shining), "Leave It Open" and "There Goes A Tenner" (about a bank robbery gone horribly wrong), I can't even imagine what you would consider not-bland. Death-metal punk?
Unless, you mean that her albums *after* the 4th are too bland, in which case I'd have to say well, yes,
*in COMPARISON* to
The Dreaming, but IMO are worth every ounce of effort to learn to appreciate them on their own terms.
The Dreaming is my All Time Favorite Album (not just by her, but by anybody), as I've said, but I wouldn't want to do without any of the others.
The "B-side" of Hounds of Love, the epic "The Ninth Wave" is as good as just about anything on The Dreaming. It's very cinematic. I love the albums that came after too. They're different, but have their place in her catalog and are treats to listen to, depending on what kind of mood I'm in. I dearly love
The Sensual World and think of it as a Fall, Sunday morning kind of album. Even then, it rewards intense listening with layers of music and interesting lyrics. Not every song can be genius on high, but her worst songs are still better than most other people's best songs. In my opinion, of course.
As a het female I really don't care about her "rack" but she is beautiful, yes. Even if I never saw her at all though, the music is the important thing. When I became a fan, via a tape compilation, I fell HARD within the first 10 seconds of "Wuthering Heights." It was months before I even saw a picture of her, so her beauty was just icing on the cake.
I need to find a country that's releasing the album in a non-copy-protected form. I just hate paying money to record companies that insist on treating me like a criminal because I want to rip my CD to mp3 and listen to it on my computer and mp3 player. My principles will be sorely tested with this album. I refuse to buy copy-protected albums, but...but...it's KATE! I have to find a solution before November. If I have to I'll import the LP and rip mp3s from it. Well, I'll buy the LP anyway, but that was going to be a bit further down the road.
I want to support Kate, and I want all the artwork and goodies that come with having the actual CD. I don't want to support nasty copy-protection.
What to do what to do?
