Would like a recommendation for Hi-Res Violin music

I'm looking for some violin music in SACD or DVD-A.

You'll have to forgive me, all you classical fans out there, but I'm relatively un-schooled in this genre of music. But, I'm looking for violin that could be described as 'haunting', 'meloncholy', or 'sullen'.

I have no idea if these very subjective terms are any help what-so-ever, but if anyone can throw me any kind of recommendation, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Listen to some sound samples online, either Hilary Hahn or Anne-Sophie Mutter (http://www.anne-sophie-mutter.de/)

I like Julian's suggestion as well.

For classical music, get the Vivaldi SACD disc by Rachael Podger. Absolutely gorgeous performance and sonics. I think its pure DSD as well. :tu

Podger also appears on the remarkable JS Bach: Solo & Double Violin Concertos with the untouchable Andrew Manze.

not violin, but i'd recommend the mercury living presence bach cello suites, as well.

Send a message via AIM to Seth--L
Schubert: Piano Trios - Guarneri Trio Prague

Schubert: String Quintet in C D.956

Not solo violin, but great violin parts.

Well - There it is.

Thanks guys, most of the suggestions were very helpful! I appreciate it, and will give you feedback if I can get my hands on the discs. Thanks again.

A song called "The Violin" by City Boy is worth a listen. You get a small sample from the below link but it doesn't do the song justice and you don't hear much Violin in the sample. It is a fantastic song.

Um Lee, Vivaldi is anything but 'haunting', 'meloncholy', or 'sullen'.
