Blue Man Group - The Complex DVD-A

Hi Folks, FYI...

Quote:
DTS ENTERTAINMENT RELEASES EXCLUSIVE SURROUND SOUND VERSION OF BLUE MAN GROUP?S THE COMPLEX

Agoura Hills, CA -- July 29, 2004 -- DTS (Digital Theater Systems, Inc.) (Nasdaq: DTSI) entertainment label, DTS Entertainment (DTSE,) announces a September 14th street date for the 5.1-channel surround sound DVD-A of Blue Man Group's second music release, The Complex. Initially released in stereo in 2003, The Complex features powerful tracks that meld Blue Man Group's signature innovative sound with a traditional rock 'n' roll formula to create a fresh twist on popular music.

The follow-up to the group's Grammy-nominated gold record, Audio (which was also released on DVD-A), The Complex represents a significant departure from Blue Man Group's popular theatrical productions. Aided by some of today's most intriguing vocalists, including Dave Matthews, Tracy Bonham, and Bush's Gavin Rossdale, Blue Man Group has transcended their distinctive instrumental-only approach -- tubes, giant walls of percussion, and other invented instruments -- into a full-on rock 'n' roll presentation.

The Complex DVD-A features many extras, including:

- Exclusive surround re-mixes of all 14 tracks from The Complex
- DVD-A surround sound and stereo
- DTS 96/24 surround and stereo for DVD-Video players
- DVD-A surround sound and stereo for DVD-Audio players
- "Behind the scenes" interviews and tour footage
- Music videos: "Sing Along" featuring Dave Matthews and "Exhibit 13"
- Special "Mix Breakdown" track, "Your Attention"
- On-screen biography and photo gallery

"Blue Man Group is known for creating revolutionary multimedia experiences that completely envelop and engage the audience," said Jeff Skillen, Vice President of DTS Entertainment. "We are pleased to be working with such an innovative group, and it is a natural fit to showcase their unique musical style using DTS technology."

"Considering the number of instruments we pack into one song, DVD-A and 5.1 Surround Sound is an ideal way to experience Blue Man music," added Blue Man Group co-founder Matt Goldman. "After the success of the DVD-A release of our Grammy-nominated album Audio, we plan to release DVD-A mixes of all of our future recording projects."

Founded by long-time friends Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton and Chris Wink in 1987, the critically acclaimed Blue Man Group creates experiences that defy categorization. They are best known for multimedia performances that feature three bald and blue characters who take the audience on a journey that is funny, intelligent and visually stunning. Since winning both the Obie and Lucille Lortel awards for their successful New York-based production, Blue Man Group has opened equally successful productions in Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas and Berlin; the company has expanded to include over 40 Blue Men and 50 musicians, and has grown into a 500-person organization. Blue Man Group reaches beyond the world of theatrical productions, and applies its vision, philosophies and aesthetic to a variety of media, including Blue Man Group Records and Blue Man Merchandising.

While recording The Complex, Blue Man Group simultaneously developed a ground-breaking rock concert experience which became the widely acclaimed Complex Rock Tour. During the summer of 2003, The Complex Rock Tour visited over 70 cities across North America, and was the basis for Blue Man Group's first ever rock concert DVD, The Complex Rock Tour Live. This is definetly on my "To Buy" list.

I thought the previous DVD-A (Audio, IIRC) was a killer test of one's sub, and having seen the Complex tour, I have been eagerly awaiting the DVD-A.

Finally. I didn't want to buy the CD because I was hoping they'd do a DVD-A version to go along with their debut.

If it's not worth waiting until the last minute to do, then it's not worth doing.

Felix,

Do you suppose DTS will have copies available at CEDIA to give away? Here's hoping they do

This album was already released in surround as a DD5.1 mix on the flip-side of the 'Complex' live concert DVD.

It's a shame that the lossless DVD-A version wasn't released on the same disc as the concert.

I've been told they won't be handing them out, but will have a few for press. You should be all set.

Felix,

Thanks. I'm hoping so. Given how much I enjoy Audio, and having seen The Complex in person I'm very much looking forward to this disc.

If not, there's always release date

Cheers,

I saw The Complex, second row, great show.

I like Venus Hum a lot more than Tracy Bonham, though.

I saw them, but from the very very last row. Wonderful show, I Feel Loved with Venus Hum and Teenage Wastlend with Tracy Bonham were astounding live.

I bought this DVD-A at Fry's in Plano, TX today for $14.99. I'll get a change to listen to it (quietly ) once I get home to my apartment in Michigan tonight.

When I saw them in Albuquerque, I think Tracy opened the show with Zep's Black Dog. As she went through her set, I realized that she was someone I heard before but just didn't know her name.

But any artist that can rip through Black Dog, note for note on the violin, is A-OK in my book!

Definetly looking forwards to getting the DVD-A, as there previous DVD-A is a killer test for a sub.
