Carpet Crawlers by Peter G and Phil C
Strange question for this forum, maybe...
My friend gave me an .mp3 years ago. It's Carpet Crawlers but Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins. Both are singing on it. When I recently pulled it into iTunes, it said it was from 1999. Anybody know what album this was from? Some reunion disc?
Thanks!

It's off of the 1999 Genesis compilation Turn It On Again.

Sadly, not a reunion disc. There was some talk (not very serious, as it turns out) that the "classic" line up would do the whole Lamb album over, but it's not even the group's favourite album (according to interviews I've read/heard) so it's unlikely (actually, I like the original just fine, thank you very much, though I'm looking forward to the hi-res M/C version slated for 2005).

Regarding the new version of Carpet Crawlers, the "classic" lineup of Genesis was involved. However, according to Steve Hackett, none of them was ever in the studio at the same time.

True, I believe it took several months to do just the one track (conflicting schedules and all that). They did get together for promotional events in UK, I think, for this disc and the Archives Vol. 1 and 2. As far as interviews reveal, they're still all pretty chummy, but as in any job where you haven't worked with people in a decade or more, they are rarely all in the same place at the same time.

Well, it was inspired by the closest thing to a "reunion" we're likely to see/hear.
I'm just waiting for them to release the M/C hi-res versions that Nick Davis has been mixing/mastering. He's stated that as he goes through the catalogue, he's mixing a hi-res two channel and M/C, so it'll be ready to release when the labels get around to it (if ever).

The hi-rez M/C version of the Lamb has been postponed till November unfortunately. According to the Genesis website the band members are making changes. I downloaded that same version of Carpet Crawlers. Pretty cool and a must have for Genesis collectors. Man I wish I lived in New York. Some cool G tribute bands on the East Coast.
