You're making a mix-CD for all your buddies on HTF. Maybe not your favorite tunes, but some stuff you'd want everone to try. What 10-15 songs are on it?

Mine:
  • The Velvet Underground, "I'm Waiting for the Man"
  • The Beatles, "Here, There and Everywhere"
  • Emmylou Harris, "Where Will I Be"
  • Simon and Garfunkel, "So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright"
  • Los Lobos, "Kiko and the Lavender Moon"
  • The Band, "Acadian Driftwood"
  • Led Zeppelin, "Thank You"
  • Billy Bragg, Wilco and Natalie Merchant, "Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key"
  • Ella Fitzgerald, "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered"
  • Luciano Pavarotti, "Nessun Dorma" (from Turandot)
  • Daniel Lanois, "Shine"
  • Bob Dylan, "Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts"
  • Talking Heads, "Road to Nowhere"

Good idea! I really have to say tho, its weird the way people get similar or the same ideas on this type of board.

As to Angelo's list, have to admit I only know 4 of those songs.

Well, if it's about who I think I am,:b presumptuous as that is to tell people who don't know me, one of my recent mixes

1. Johnny Strikes Up the Band - Warren Zevon
2. Like a Rolling Stone - Dylan
3. Dadada - Trio
4. Walk of Life - Mark Knopfler
5. Radio Gaga - Queen
6. Honky Cat - Elton John
7. You Speak my Language - Morphine
8. That's Life - Frank Sinatra
9. The Joker - Steve Miller
10. History Repeats - Miss Shirley Bassey with the Propellerheads (sp?)
11. Twist in My Sobriety - Tanita Tikaram
12. Abandoned Love - Everly Brothers
13. Nothing Stays the Same - Percy Mayfield

I shoulda put "Beginning to See the Light" by VU on it. But that's way too much about me for now, somebody else jump on board the Musical Train!

(My next list will be my "uplifting" disk mix )

As part of my crusade to get people everywhere to listen to jazz (slightly successful), accept alternative hip-hop (not very successful) and wake up to modern Marillion (miserable failure):

Charles Mingus- Better Get Hit in Your Soul
Marillion- Quartz
Blackalicious- Green Light
King Crimson- Level Five
Opeth- Godheads Lament
Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers- A Night in Tunisia
Sonny Rollins- Freedom Suite

Here's my knee-jerk, uncalculated, schizophrenic response, mostly comprised of modest hits and in no particular order... [think of it as a sampler]

Chris Rea - The Road to Hell, Part II
Los Lobos - Wake Up, Dolores
Paul Simon - Duncan
Wild Colonials - Charm
Aimee Mann - Choice in the Matter
Soul Coughing - Soundtrack to Mary
Squirrel Nut Zippers - Hell
X - Because I Do
Minor Threat - Minor Threat
Dwight Yoakum - Streets of Bakersfield (the only accordian-inclusive song I can stomach)
Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen - Hot Rod Lincoln
U2 - Dancin' Barefoot
Judas Priest - Green Manalishi with a Two-Prong Crown
Vladimir Horowitz - Mozart: Sonata No.11, K. 331
Kingston Trio - E Inu Tatou E

Amen. Volume 2 is a bit uneven, but there's some great stuff in it as well (e.g., "Stetson Kennedy"). Have you seen the documentary on the recording of Mermaid Avenue? I haven't yet.

Excellent song from an excellent album; my favorite cut is "Ironbound/Fancy Poultry."

Damn, Rachael, that is a real nice disc. I'd buy it (even though I have all the songs)

Yes it is. Maybe the bar was set to high.
