What's on your I-Pod/MP3 player?

I just ordered a 20GB Gateway Jukebox (DMP-X20 20GB Jukebox Player) and it says it holds 5000-8000 songs (depending on format).

This is my first foray into MP3 players and I was wondering how other users of sililiar products use them. I have 2500 CDS so obviously I can't store my entire collection (nor would I want to).

I have a 20gig iPod and it has about 2200 songs on it. It could hold more if I used greater data compression. I use it in my car and work everyday.

My new 20GB Karma (have been meaning to post review here, haven't had time yet) has 2,270 songs on it, and it has 5GB remaining. Most of my stuff is alt-preset MP3. I'll have to delete some non-favorite acts before too long to make room.

Is it pretty close to CD-quality sound or am I expecting too much?

In my opinion, over Koss KSC-35 headphones, MP3 alt-preset is very close to CD quality. Good enough for me.

You want a list of all 6500 songs?

I've got about 35 GB on my 40BG iPod, with a wide variety from my cd collection .
582 Artists, 505 albums (plus a bunch of single tracks)
Everything from A Perfect Circle, Alison Krauss, Allman Brothers and Aphex Twin to Wu Tang Clan, XTC and Zero 7.

Now my big problem is having to decide what to listen to.

i lump my playlists into major categories, i.e., classical 1 & 2 (2 is for multiple track pieces - turn off shuffle play), jazz, blues, books, kids (barney, veggie tales), holiday, wife (amy grant, etc.), and the rest goes under "dave" (rock, indie, etc.)

occasionally i'll make a smaller mix such as:

mellon collie and the infinite sadness (smashing pumpkins)
between the bars (elliott smith)
stravinsky (the forms)
let it fall (sean watkins)
angeles (elliot smith)
the king of carrott flowers pt.1 (neutral milk hotel)
redemption song (bob marley)
seek up (dave matthews)
the tower that ate people (peter gabriel - live)
two-headed boy pt.2 (neutral milk hotel)
turn of the century (yes)
can-utility and the coastliners (genesis)
summa v.1991 for strings (arvo part)
more than this (peter gabriel)

Thanks Dave. Those are suggestions I can use.
