that stinks
after my 6 days of owning an ipod i can tell you i'm already satisfied with my purchase, and i'd recommend if/when you get your money back you should invest in an ipod.

For me, it's iTunes. Best reason? 2 words-smart playlists!

Here's an update: the Gateway MP3 player was a piece of shit. I wound up sending it in for repairs three times (of course this was after I put 3000 songs on it (twice). I finally wound up throwing it in a drawer with crappy remote controls and old walkmans, and wound up going to Best But today and picked up the Creative Zen Jukebox Xtra 40GB player for $240. I also bought an Iomega 160GB hard drive, which I will use to convert my entire CD collection (about 2500 discs) to 128kb WMA files.

I have almost 8,000 songs on my 40GB iPod. I mostly use Apple's AAC compression -- anything from 128K to 192K, depending on the material. A few hard-to-rip CD's required the use of Exact Audio Copier w/ LAME for 192K VBR MP3 files. I have about 6GB of space left.
Music ranges through classical, jazz, blues, rock and a little comedy.

i have a 4th gen 20 GB ipod. about 4750 songs, 3.2 GB remaining. i use 128k mp3, mainly because my earphones are not that great, and the portability is more important to me than the sound quality. if i want better quality, i have the original CD. i cant tell the difference between 128 and 160 when using the itrip, most of my ipod use is in the car anyway. as far as playlists go, i have everything from abba to zeppelin, led.
