Others..
Faith no More: Angel Dust.
A band that people love to make fun of and with fairly good reason (boy they suck live) but I think AD stands out.
RUSH: Hemispheres - Caress of Steel.
Yeah, pomp & circumstance...but good pomp & circumstance ( I think I'm..I'm goin bald... ).
Megadeth: Countdown to Extinction.
Supertramp: Crime of the Century - Breakfast in America.
I still think BIA was the perfect swan song for the 70's.
Van Halen: Fair Warning. Hey you remember when that girl was prom queen....oh wow..
The Who: Who's Next.
Living Colour: Stain.
Not exactly underrated but I still think it deserves more recognition.
Meat Puppets: Meat Puppets 2 - Forbidden Places
10cc: How Dare You - The Original Soundtrack - Deceptive Bends.
Cutesy bubblegum at times but still talented.
St. Vitus: St. Vitus - The Walking Dead - everything with "Wino".
Early 80's punk/morbid metal, Raw.
Vangelis: Aphrodite's Child (of course) - Spiral - See You Later - Heaven & Hell.
Trouble: Trouble - Manic Frustration - Plastic Green Head.

I saw faith no more live in like 97, when they were all white dress shirts with ties, they were actually very good. they had limp bizkit opening, now they suck.
I like their album of the year, disc.
I think I know someone from Trouble, do they have a guitarist named Eric?

Faith No More was one of the best bands I've ever seen live. The Angel Dust tour was sick.

Angel Dust is my favorite album of all time and have listened to it in it's entirety a countless number of times and whenever I put it in, it usually stays in for at least 2 complete cycles. I managed to seen FNM live 4 times, but only once in a club setting and that was during the last tour with Limp Bizquick. They always put on a phenomonal show, so I'm not sure what you saw Kevin. I would give just about anything to go back in time and see them on the Angel Dust tour. If I remember right, they toured with Helmet -AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! I get sick just thinking about it.

Aric, That's another new spelling for my name that I've never seen before. Where did you see FNM at? I drove to Milwaukee. If I remember correctly, they didn't play Chicago on that tour. In fact, their last three times through Chicago were all on festivals.

Well all I can say is that I saw them three times in St. Louis in 89 (Epic), 91 (AD tour) & in 95 for King For A Day (all at The American Theater) and several times on TV over the years and every time the musical presentation was pretty good but Mike Patton's vocals were horrible, which was a shame as I think his vocals on the albums are quite good. Another thing to note was that their original guitarist Jim Martin IMO wasn't very good either, he pretty much hacked away at it but during their KFAD tour the new guitarist (Trey Spruance, of Mr. Bungle) was pretty damn good....I'm not sure if it was him on tour but the photos I've seen of him sure look like they guy they had.
BTW I hate to say this about Patton because, as you can tell from the number of times I have payed money to see them, I am a fan and I do think he has an interesting voice....just not on stage.
Regarding Trouble, they were a band out of Chicago and had an interesting career, they started out as a christian rock band but...had a falling out with the church it seems.
They were damn good and well worth looking into, on a side note I have always found it interesting that the main cords from Metallica's Enter Sandman (1991) were lifted almost directly from their song Psychotic Reaction from the (1989) self titled album Trouble.
HERE is their web site.

Eric, at the time I saw them in Phoenix while in college. I was there from summer of 96-98. I thought they were pretty good, and I've been to a ton of shows, and I thought they were fine, not amazing, but far from the worst act I've seen. Yeah, people are always mispelling my name, maybe they think I'm you? Funny I only live about a half hour from you....
Kevin, I dont think I've really listened to their stuff, but I know someone who is related to the guitarist I think? I've met him once or twice maybe.

...others,
Deep Purple: Machine Head. Yes, it is the one everyone mentions but nonetheless it is my favorite by them.
Rare Bird: As Your Mind Flies By - Born Again.
Alice Cooper: Killers - School's Out - Billion Dollar Babies.
Black Sabbath: Born Again - TYR. Born Again is the one many Sabbath afficionados dismiss but from the first time I heard it I was hooked.....Ian Gillan & Sabbath for christ's sake!
Led Zep: Zeppelin III. I just love the entire flow of this album, perfect.
Sweet: Desolation Boulevard - Level Headed.
Cheech & Chong: Big Bamboo....what can I say...it's funny.
"One lid or two lids...one lid or two lids....i..it's three lids!"
Badfinger: Day after Day live. Really good live performance, I once played it for some people and until they heard applause they didn't know it was a live performance.
edit to add stuff..and more stuff...
