Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?
My 76-82 Genesis Box set (SACD) has arrived and I've been sampling some things across a few albums. Still early to form a definitive opinion but so far I'm happier with the MCH mixing choices than I am with the sound quality. Not as bad as some have made it out to be in various fora, but it is not as good as my "top of the line" releases (the Elton John re-issues, for example) in sonic quality.

Eric Clapton Slowhand, SACD. I'd forgotten how good this album is...

Been thinking about this one, and 461 Ocean Boulevard.
But I have both on MoFi gold so I keep putting it off.
Maybe it's time to bite.

I feel you, Blair. FWIW, after years of retentiveness, I had some very good luck selling several of my treasured Ultradiscs this past spring via Amazon Marketplace after finally deciding to get the DVD-A or SA-CD of the title. Interestingly, only Scarecrow didn't sell promptly.

Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?
I know I've asked this question before, but I seriously don't remember the answer. But when it comes to sound quality and fidelity, is the absolute best source the master tapes? Would they beat any vinyl, CD, SACD, etc hands down? Just curious.

Assuming that the master tape is the source for all of the others, it would have to be, since all others would be some form of copy. I assume that most, but not all, recording equipment used in studios is capable of higher resolution than most consumer gear. Of course, someone can correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm not a recording engineer.

Unfortunately, I can't speak to the sound quality of either right now, because my SACD player is packed away for then next month. I ripped both to my ipod and have been listening in MP3 (or whatever Apple uses) glory .
Oh, and I should note that I picked up both Clapton SACDs on Ebay for $12 and $13 respectively, including shipping. Both were new and still in the wrapper. There are some good deals there if you are patient.

If I buy the Clapton's on SACD it will be from yourmusic who have them for $6.99 each, free shipping.
Come to think of it, I suppose it's a no brainer at that price.

Re: What Hirez Discs Have You Purchased Recently?
Oops, looks like Sony did it again. Not unlike with She's So Unusual and the Dances With Wolves score, they've released a remastered/expanded CD of a title that arguably makes the existing SACD comparatively less attractive. This time it's a Legacy Edition of Tapestry.
But unlike Dances and Cyndi, those weren't multichannel SACDs. Anyone: how's the m.c. mix on the Tapestry SACD?
