I was looking at the new issue of Home Theater Magazine at the listings of the New & Recent SACD Releases and they had Mariah Carey's #1's
|
I heard about this. Supposedly to be releaased in February or March 2006. Most likely a reissue of the #1's album on hybrid SACD. Good move on Sony's part to recycle her older material now given that Mariah Carey had the biggest selling album of 2005.
I would love to get her "MTV Unplugged" album on multi-channel hybrid SACD though.
Kind of slow in terms of domestic hi-rez purchases....almost got the Lionel Richie "Just For You" SACD.

...on the other hand, the page ya'all are talking about in HT mag is always full of errors, retreads, and all kinds of mistakes. That page is consistently a prime example of lazy, irresponsible journalism, month after month.
Rachael, the big disc cat! I used to be looking for Hi-Vision Laserdiscs & D-Theater tapes, now I'm looking for HD-DVD's and Blu-rays.
I survived the AFI top 100 Film Challenge! I've seen them all.

I think it would be great if Sony released a lot of the older (not old I dont wanna say they are old) because the way I look at it a lot of the popular music from the late 80's and early to mid 90's doesnt sound dated at all and still gets airplay now for ex. Gloria Estefan, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Sting, etc those are the big time popular artists when i was a young lad.
But I would love to see some of Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Gloria Estefan, Jennifer Lopez, Incubus etc. being reissued on Hybrid SACD. Ive heard Mariah Carey's latest album and I really dont care much for it at all I like the remixes especially the new single but the album I dont care much for it. Her earlier stuff was the best when she was with Sony/Columbia. There for a while she was kinda fading out it seemed until this latest album took off. I remember hearing on new years eve on sirius radio they were giving the list of 2005's worst albums and #2 was the Emancipation of Mimi or whatever its called, and I didnt get that because if it was how come it did so well? and #1 was Jennifer Lopez - Rebirth, and it did suck compared to her previous stuff. Dont know what happened there. Hopefully we'll see more releases soon.
About HT Magazine, there is an Interview with Phil Ramone in it and im pretty sure you all know who he is, a legend when it comes to producing and they asked him about SACD & DVD-A and doing Surround Mixes. Heres the ques
HT-Billy Joel's "The Stranger" was one of Sony's First Super Audio CD's. Why Have SACD and DVD-Audio stalled in the Marketplace?
PR-We introduced the public to two formats at the same time, and they chose not to buy either one. Surround sound should be the message-not DVD-Audio or 5.1 surround-they don't mean anything to the average record buyer. We owe the public a lot, and, to get their business back, we have to offer real value. If it's good, they'll come. I think the DualDisc may work.

My copy of Deadwing by Porcupine Tree showed up today.
Good surround mix...think I might like In Abstentia better but have to give this a few listens.
This DVD-A is well authored, meaning it's what DVD audio should be, surround music supported by visuals very well done.
Tough to beat if anyone is looking for it. A guy on Ebay sells a copy each week it seems. I missed the last one but got this one for $14 shipped, he always has more and hardly anyone bids on them, make that 2 people have bid on the DVD-A, the guy I lost the last one to, and myself on this one.
Easy to pick up cheap and in new condition. Just do a search it'll pop up.

Picked up NIN's With Teeth today. BB sent me a $10 off coupon so off we went.
Its a DD but the DVD side is DVD Audio.
Good disc, need a bigger center channel, voices get drowned out a bit. Adjusted the ICBM and pulled it out but a bigger center would work for me better all around.
Next disc I'll pick up it NIN's 10th anniversary disc in DVD-A.

Just received my SACD of Jacintha's "Love Flows Like A River" that I purchased brand-new from a Hong Kong seller off of ebay for US$10.00. Haven't had the chance to audition the disc yet, but it would be interesting to compare Jacintha's renditions of these songs to the ones available on SACD from Teresa Teng (on Hong Kong Universal Music SACD) or Tsai Chin (on Hong Kong Warner Music SACD).
Otherwise, also picked up SACD of Journey's "Arrival" and Marvin Gaye's "Midnight Love".
Update: Listening to Jacintha's SACD on the computer....not bad at all. My first Jacintha SACD. Not quite in the league of Teresa Teng though.

Ladysmith is on its way for me as well. I love their first SACD.
And I picked up the John Mayer RFS SACD a couple of weeks ago and it has been getting a lot of play. You're probably familiar with the album, but if not, it's a great album. And I am really enjoying the multichannel SACD on this one. Sound is quite good, and I like the mix. Hope you like it.

Looking forward to RFS, from a previous listen the Ladysmith is a fantastic SACD.
Based on info from this thread, have
Weather Report - Heavy Weather SACD en route as well.
