Just released today - Kem's "Album II" Dualdisc. The DVD side is a DVD-A with high resolution stereo and surround.

Nice score on Madman for $6, Larry. Online or b&m??
Congrats on your continued shopping spree, Arman. (You know there's a Globe Sessions DVD-A, yesh?)
Interesting re the Kem, Ken--thx for tip. A Motown album released on CD this past May (according to Amazon) that's now getting a DD with DVD-A surround. These six-month windows between releases are too consistent and persistent for me to continue to think they're coincidental. Annoying. UMG should release both "day-and-date."

I think this was discussed way earlier in this thread: is there a way to do a search of the YourMusic.com site that just returns hits for all the SACD titles they stock?

I got the Anthony Wilson Trio's Savivity SA-CD yesterday. It's pretty good. It's not quite as good as his last Groove Note Sack-Dee, Our Gang. It apparently is what was left over from the Our Gang sessions from something I read, someplace. That source also said he was touring as get-tar player for Dianna Krall as of late.
I'd adivse anybody who wanted to try his jazz guitar to start with Our Gang before getting Savivity. Savivity might grow on me some, with a few more listens...? It's a good album but Our Gang es muy, muy bueno!
I have a couple more jazz Sack-Dee's coming...be back soon...
Rachael, the big disc cat! I used to be looking for Hi-Vision Laserdiscs & D-Theater tapes, now I'm looking for HD-DVD's and Blu-rays.
I survived the AFI top 100 Film Challenge! I've seen them all.

Do a search using "Album Title", type in " SACD" (there's a space before SACD), and hit "Go".
I have 48 SACD titles returned from the search.

Thx, Danny--I vaguely remembered there was something counterintuitive and semi-retarded about searching that site. Too bad so many of the titles they have are UMG titles in which I'm slightly more interested in the DVD-A.
But I could get that Nikolaus Harnoncourt Mozart "Requiem" I asked about earlier herein for $5.99 . . .

Do tell re Top Gun! I have been balking for many months because I wanna be able to hit the "Danger Zone" in the car (and this title is not a hybrid). And being neither an original DSD recording nor m.c., I figured the upside to buying it was minimal. Am I wrong? Will it "Take My Breath Away"??
|
I didn't expect much from this SACD, and to be honest, it's no audiophile recording. However, it doesn't sound bad at all. I think some of the credit must be given to Vic Anesini, who engineered this title for SACD. I was surprised at the details within the mix of "Take My Breath Away" and this song alone is almost worth the price of the disc. The separation on "Danger Zone" is quite amazing and certainly worthy of cranking the system up. Some songs just don't do it for me....like that Loverboy track. And not even hi-rez can improve the sound quality of "Great Balls of Fire". But beware! Being an album from the mid 80s, this SACD is very synthesizer-heavy. While this is basically a various artist compilation, surprisingly most of the tracks are recorded at the same studio with the same engineers. The overall sound quality, therefore, is quite uniform. Worthy of a recommendation.
On a separate note, I just received the SACD of "Fushicho Densetsu" by Momoe Yamaguchi (who rivals Miles Davis and Bob Dylan in terms of SACD titles released). It's a Japanese pop SACD from Sony Japan and I have yet to listen to it (not that I would understand Japanese), but the packaging is just like an LP. Even the SACD disc itself looks like an vinyl record on the label side. Very neato.
