Speaking of Mahler, does anyone have this Bernstein/NY Phil/Sony single layer SACD of the Symphony No. 1?

Also, I just found out at that page that (another!) new recording of the Mozart "Requiem" was released on SACD last fall. Does anyone have this Harnoncourt/Concentus Musicus Wien/Deustche Harmonia Mundi version?

Whoever wants a great deal on 10 Linn classical SACDs for about $80 should go here:

BTW, that's 45 pounds delivered.

Arman, I'd nix that Bon Jovi and the other one they have out is worse. Amongst the worst of the worst of the format, IMO. I just got company, talk to ya later...

Rachael, the big disc cat! I used to be looking for Hi-Vision Laserdiscs & D-Theater tapes, now I'm looking for HD-DVD's and Blu-rays.

I survived the AFI top 100 Film Challenge! I've seen them all.

Also, Music Direct.

And since Universal Music Group has been the biggest supporter of hi rez amongst the majors, their "New Formats" site is worth reviewing: http://consumers.umusic.com/.

P.S. - Kudos on that Denon 2910 purchase, Arman. I understand that's an outstanding piece. I'd more seriously consider springing for one myself if I wasn't so interested in what's going to happen with hi def DVD.

Paul.S,
I can't speak to the Bernstein Mahler 1 to which you refer, even though I have his recordings of 2 through 7 on vinyl. I can however highly recommend this very recent SACD of the same work. It is very, very good and much higher -fi than the the early 60s Bernstein. Bernstein got me started on Mahler and most of his recordings with New York are incredibly emotional experiences, even though the orchestra at that time was not quite as polished as it could have been.

Tilson Thomas Mahler 1

Arman, I'm sure you'll be delighted with the 2910. I have the ole 2900 for M/C and some DVDing. I do stere on Sony players. They excel at that. Were you serious a couple of days ago when you wanted some recomendations on French hi-rez? I could give some. I've picked up about a half dozen. Zazie's Rodeo is nice pop-rock thang with alluring female chauntussin'. It come with a (PAL) DVD which I haven't watched yet...should! Calog3ro's (the 3 is not a typo) S/T is my fav of the R & R albums.

While we're on the Euro thang...I've really enjoyed the Italian group, Concola's, album, Essere*Essenzili*Esistere. It's also a world class tongue-twister for me. It's the only non-classical releae I've seen by Fone. I think I got it from Acoustic Sounds or Elusive Disc for well less than $20. My German recommendation is RPWL's World Through My Eyes. They have an English singer and this one's all in English. It's a good heavy rock albm with several way above average compositions. The M/C program is quite good, one of my fav's.

Some other recommendations from the U.K.: Paul Weller's Studio 150 covers album...which I think has gone domestic now...? Cardigan's Long Gone Before Midnight, Eleanor McEvoy's Early Hours, T Rex's Electric Warrior, Deep Purple's Machine Head, and MOST EPECIALLY Bryan Ferry's Boys And Girls which I think has also gone domestic...?

Deep Discount has my current fav SA-CD for less than $14 right now, Michael Hill's Black Gold And Goddesses Bold! It's rockin', dueling guitars and some great protest music. If you're gettin' tored auf Bushism's and wanna see him spanked. This would be your album. The non-protest music, civilian type tunes are pretty good also. The M/C mix is centre-of-the-band and even I like it! Shazzam! I have some reservations about the M/C vocal choices on a couple of tracks, but the music is choice...it's also choice in stereo with a guitarist in either channel. If you're not a hard-core we-publican you should like-y...?

I can keep ya broke if you let me?!! There'll be more suggestions later!

Arman: Drop back in with some comments on Legion Of Boom when you have a chance (after getting some sleep!). I've been eyeing that one and I'm particularly interested in what I imagine is a very aggressive surround mix.
