PaulT, I feel the same way about NIN. "You've Changed..." I think my tastes have moved in another direction.

Rachael, the big disc cat! I used to be looking for Hi-Vision Laserdiscs & D-Theater tapes, now I'm looking for HD-DVD's and Blu-rays.

I survived the AFI top 100 Film Challenge! I've seen them all.

PaulDA, I'm glad I didn't give ya bum steer. I hope they're gonna make another Thorn-y record. I'm beginning to wonder. They don't seem to be a big seller. Maybe they're gettin' fired? Hope not! It'd be depressing to see their next, possible, album on Dual-y Disc or Cee-Dee if they stay with So-ny... ...

Rachael: Thx for comments re Q. I will compare common cuts on that SA-CD to my CDs of The Dude, Q's Juke Joint and the outstanding 4-CD set The Musical Biography Of Quincy Jones (highly recommended btw).

Which Bon Jovi SA-CD is a stinker--Bounce or This Left Feels Right?

Where/how can I find your reviews (here on HTF??)?

(I keep spinning my 100% Fun CD but Matthew Sweet is just not doin' it to me . . .)

My man BGL: Congrats on getting Peter Gabriel 3 back into the collection. The one on there that does it for me is "Family Snapshot."

PaulT: I am interested in that Downward Spiral SA-CD, but I am also curious about any comparative comments anyone may have about the (de)merits of the contents of the second disc of the SA-CD set versus the video content of the (dare I mention it) DualDisc . . .?

With two positive nods, I'm looking forward to cranking Nick Of Time.

Per Aaron's question, is Keane the piano, vox and drums ensemble?

Currently groovin' to the expectedly compressed (it's "Mutt" Lange) In Blue,

Correction/amendment/p.s.: there is ALSO a DVD-A of The Downward Spiral. That settles which version I want since it features the hi rez of the Dual and SA-CD AND the vid content.

Paul,

Glad you are starting to listen through the discs. Just a correction, there is no DVD-A only version of NIN. It is only Dualdisc and SA-CD. It is 24/48 hi-res on the DVD side. I hade both, sold the Dualy. The video content was not worth it and the extra tracks on the SA-CD are good if you do not own any other NIN material.

As for the topic, I just picked up recently:

- John Hiatt "Master of Disaster"
- Rolling Stones "Hot Rocks"
- Super Furry Animals "Love Kraft"
- Goldfrapp "Supernatural"
- Simple Minds "New Gold Dream"
- Earth, Wind & Fire "That's the way of the world"

Pre-ordered:

- Depeche Mode "Playing the Angel"
- Epica "The Score"

all SA-CD. Indeed, hi-res is hardly dead.

Emil:

Welcome. Looks like I didn't look closely enough at the DVD-A listings at the UMG site: they list Duals in that same area and I mistook a Downward Spiral listing there for DVD-A.

PaulT, I will shortly PM you about your SA-CD 2-fer of that album.

Interesting that it would appear you just picked up what Amazon calls a Mobile Fidelity Koch release of the original That's the Way Of the World .

This is not to be confused with the Alive In '75 SA-CD, yes??

I LOVE that album--my parents played it often when I was a child. Comments?

PaulS

Yep, it is the MoFi release. Seal is still on it. Will crack open shortly. Based on the comments from Steve Hoffman at his site, looking forward to it. Will post up some thoughts.

And it is a great album. My favorite from EWF.

Paul.S, Bounce sounds like a dog to me. I never heard it on another format but it sounds wrong to me. It and the Quincy were among Uni's first few Sack-Dees. Most of my Quincy is on LP except for Everything Must Change... I have The Dude and several others. I've had the SA-CD out twice and just wasn't impressed at all. I just sounds stuffy and wrong to me. It sounds like it wasn't properly mastered to me. I can't say why exactly...same for Bounce too! I think they're the 2 most unimpressive titles I've heard, period.

I wonder if some of my reviews are so old they're in Archives by now? Many of them proably date back to 2001-3. I trashed Chesky's Surround Show on SA-CD. I was mean, just like Rex the Turd, as best I could. I reviewed Colleen Sexton, Grant-Lee Phillips, Jorma Kaukonen....maybe Mighty Sam McClane,...hmn, I'm forgetting myself.

I'll write a new review soon. I got a title I think is very highly recommendable. I'll listen to the M/C program for the first time and I'll be good to go for a write-up. I'll keep the title under my hat and suprise ya'all in a few days.

Thx for comments, Rachael.

I note from SA-CD.net that the MoFi That's the Way Of the World includes the bonus tracks that were on the remastered CD.
