I found a real gem that probably not alot of you have heard of. The Suitcase Pimps SACD fills a void in modern rock SACD's. My music tastes run the gamut of Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis, as well as a taste for well played modern rock. Love is Grand is a`great sounding SACD by a group of obviously talented musicians. I like the fact that they did not abandon the guitar solo either. There is some great guitar work throughout the disc and the song writing is stellar. I know you guys are always looking for some great new music and thought you all might be interested. Does anybody else own this disc? I think the only place you can get it is on cdbaby.com.

Tommy, thanks for the tip.
I have been interested in checking this disc out because of all the positive feedback over at Audioasylum.

I know it's a two channel recording. Is it a hybrid? And is the price reasonable?

Hmm... guess I can answer those questions for myself.

It is a DSD hybrid CD. I got it for 12.97 on cdbaby. It's two channel stereo. There is a regular cd layer and a SACD layer. Hope that helps.

If you like great guitar playing you should check it out.

Jeff Coffin from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones guests on sax as well. There are also alot of cool sound effects inbetween songs that sound killer in the new format.

Found this on the audio asylum post. Apparently it is from the producer of the disc.
Quote:
I've gotten a few different emails on the SACD by the Suitcase Pimps and I thought I'd post here and say a few things. First off it wasn't a Sony label release, just an indie project. We approached Tracy Martinson of Sony SACD Nashville about releasing this project in the SACD format. Obviosly the entire project had been done in the PCM format, but I'd heard so many good things about SACD that I decided to take chance and pay a little larger manufacturing cost.

Thanks for the link Michael. That is a very enlightening post up at audioasylum. I know alot of us are curious as to what is used in the recording process and he gives out quite a bit of quality information.

I ordered a copy. This might be a very small run on such a small label. This could become a rather rare disc? Tomorrow never knows...? ..and The Shadow isn't telling. I'll be back to this thread in 7-10 dayz I presume when I hear the thang.

I wish someone could tell me how they recorded the grand finale on this! I mean it sounds surreal. You can hear a train going off in the distance and man it freaks, let alone the fact that it sounds like your being buried alive.

Did they bury a michrophone?
