I am new to the Hi Rez format and only own a few discs. I Purchased the REM greatest hits DVDA and was fairly impressed. The sound is great, I feel the surrounds could have been a little more spectacular, but overall, good.
I will list my discs and give a grade beside it.
I am looking to add the one disc you all feel is a must own. I like all kinds of music and want somthing to demo to friends. Let me know.

Beach Boys (Pet Sounds)DVDA A- The Boyz have never sounded so good, and it is amazing what a 40 year old disc can sound like.

Overture of 1812 (Telarc)SACD A The cannon blasts are frightning on my PB2+ at reference level.

Queen (The Game)DVDA A This disc is amazing, I can't imaging a record of this age sounding any better, other than the next one

Pink Floyd (Dark side of Moon) SACD A+ This disc was made for Hi Rez. GET IT!!

REM (The Hits)DVDA B Sounds good, but I think a little more aggressive mix would have boosted this to an A.

Christopher,

You have the start of a good collection. It's hard to pinpoint must-owns, but there have been some definite stand-outs in my DVD-A and SACD collection of about 50 discs.

DVD-A:

Grateful Dead "Workingman's Dead" and "American Beauty"--If your friends are in any way into the Dead, the first track on Workingman's Dead (Uncle John's Band) will blow them away in multichannel. It has for my friends.

Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band 'XXL'--This is a stand-out sonically and performance-wise.

Blue Man Group "Audio"--Very cool stuff, a real test for your subwoofer.

Porcupine Tree "In Absentia"--one of the best recent albums I have heard.

SACD:

Beck "Sea Change"--somewhat depressing album, but sounds incredible.

The Who "Tommy"--not much needs to be said.

Bob Dylan "Blood on the Tracks" and "Blonde on Blonde"--great music and sounds great.

I actually just bought Creedence Clearwater Revival "The Concert", and it sounds really good on SACD for a 1970 Live Concert. Not demo material, but very impressive.

For pure sonics (not necessarily content), my two best sounding hi-rez discs are probably Patricia Barber "Modern Cool" and Rebecca Pidgeon "The Raven".

???????????????????????????????
The surrounds on this disc are VERY agressive (as is usual for an Elliot Scheiner mix). What do you want, EVERYTHING in the rears?

I agree that the surrounds were aggressive. Definitely not to my tastes but the stereo mix was great.

The 3 dropouts on the dts track suck.

Yes, I tried 2 different discs. I had to return the first one I got for Christmas, the case was pooched on arrival.

Absence of some hits sucks too.

A nice 24/48 PCM track would have helped.

simplicity is genius...

Robert,

You need to correct your Pink Floyd selection! This is not a DVD Audio release yet. It's sa-cd..

Jesper, I was about to say the same thing, man. Quick, Robert . . . before you give someone palpitations. LOL.

Thanks guys for the correction notice. I have now corrected it. I didn't mean to make a post as if I am from the future.
