Lee, the article does say MOST realeases will be hybrids, so I stille get to bitch and pitch a fit periodically!

Rachael, the big disc cat! I used to be looking for Hi-Vision Laserdiscs & D-Theater tapes, now I'm looking for HD-DVD's and Blu-rays.

I survived the AFI top 100 Film Challenge! I've seen them all.

Well, it's about mother-lovin' time!

Granted, most of the title don't interest me, but Bowie, Who, Basie, and Vaughan will be sweet, especially if they're hybrids.

Good news, though the only titles of interest to me are already out in Europe as Stereo SACDs:

I was hoping to read that Sony would only release hybrid SACD on all new releases (i.e. no redbook-only disks). Still, this is good as long as there are no cracking issues.

Ya gotta love some more JT on SACD! Of course I mean the original JT...

I'm also really looking forward to John Mayer "Heavier Things".

{Edit. My bad: Didn't see the link to High Fidelity Review for more info. upon first reading the post.}

I wouldn't construe this announcement to mean anything WRT to releases from labels whose releases might be featured in the "09.03" booklet but that are neither pressed by nor affiliated with Sony in any way.

The linked article says this is a Sony Music thing. That is, it doesn't imply anything one way or the other about discs that Sony might manufacture for other labels.

So for example, do I have to worry about the Tommy disc cracking? (Although in reality, I would expect a lot of people here might get this and report if there are problems or not.)

One strange side question is: if this is truly a PCM to DSD conversion, why wouldn't the DVD-A be out 1st? I think I saw in ICE that the SACD comes out in Oct some time.

If it's not worth waiting until the last minute to do, then it's not worth doing.

The James Taylor album, besides SWEET BABY JAMES of course (!), I'd most like to see on SACD is his S/T'ed one he made for Apple. There's great songs on there. He just tears up the old, traditional CIRCLE 'ROUND THE SUN and makes it is own. CAROLINA IN MY MIND is stille his signature song. Me, I like the something songs, SOMETHING's WRONG and SOMETHING IN THE WAY SHE MOVES. I'm always on the lookout for a good something song, myself. You never know something could be in the air? Atleast Apple stuff isn't in Warner's pawws, is it, surely not???

Lee, if the hybrid thing is settled...? We can move on to bitchin' about their mediocre packaging. Super Jewel, por favor! SACD needs a look and the awful slipcases over garden variety Jewel cases is like a homely date.

S-A-C-D, what's that spell? ...SACD needs a distinct look. Nobody likes Digipacks...OK that guy who prefers hamburger 'B' likes digipacks. The Spannish Inquesition also likes digipacks but what would you expect from them?!? Super Jewel looks just different enough to be different and I like the way the sleaves stay stille, or don't often fall out...and how it's easier to takes the sleaves in or out with either of the 2 design variations I've seen.

S-A-C-D needs a LOOK.
