Just the fact that 50% of the purchase price goes to the artists and the artists (not the labels) own the music is damn near euphoric!

After going through their documents, I don't know how you define "support." While they may give 50% of the revenue to the artist (assuming there is any revenue, and that it is actually accounted for), the label does not in any way provide funding for album development, all they do is distribute finished product with a promise to pay a commission on sales, but only if you sell a minimum number of copies. They also do not provide any active promotion other than allowing free downloading. The artist is responsible for providing all advertising materials.
They mention offshoots of merchandising (which they take a 50% cut of), but this is done through Cafepress, who I know from personal experience are way overpriced, making margins next to nothing, and who don't pay unless you make enough in commissions, which, at their pricing, is very difficult to do.
Excuse the pessimism, but I have seen this sort of idea before, and it never ends up being what it says it is. Perhaps this is different, but so far they are not supporting anyone. This is simply a pay for distribution setup with a new spin.
