Universal has just updated their DVD-A site, nailing down release dates finally for Steely Dan Gaucho and Peter Frampton Frampton Comes Alive for 12/16/03.

Note, both discs contain stereo and surround tracks at 24/96, the native recording resolution (for a digital transfer from the original analog masters...no extra conversions i.e PCM to DSD which degrades the digital rtransfer required here).

For those with players of both SACD and DVD-A wait a bit longer, as we will finally get the discs in the best sounding versions.

UMG US are doing a great job for DVD Audio! UMG Europe will soon follow that step..

Gotta love the release date, my birth day
I'll pick up the Gaucho disc for sure. I've already got the SACD and frankly I'm amazed at it so I can't imagine what the DVD-A will be like if it truly does sound better.

Regards,
Dave

Surely, FCA was not originally recorded digitally in, what was it, 1976?

And I would have thought Gaucho was analog as well. I think Nightfly came after Gaucho, and it was one of the earliest popular digital recordings, was it not?

Putting that aside, both titles are headed for my collection.

This is actually the native resolution of the digital transfer made from the original analog masters. For the SACD releases an extra conversion from PCM to DSD was made. Most (all that I know) audiophiles frown at extra unneeded digital conversions.

I will edit the original post slightly to clear this up.
