Anyone have this yet? I see it was released in the UK last week. Early reviews? Thanks.

I don't have the album, but the LA Times gave it a positive review.

Summary/Paraphrase: The lyrics are so carefully crafted as to avoid the cliche that they are sometimes too sparse (?); however, the strength of the music makes it all work. IIRC, it received three out of four stars.

More importantly, Elvis has shifted musical gears again, and this is not a continuation of the music the made him initially famous and which he revisited with last year's album - this is something different. Unfortunately, I do not remember the reviewer's description of the type of music Elvis is exploring this time around.

-Steve

I just picked up the disc and listened to the first few songs on my way back from lunch.

It seems the Diana Krall factor has rubbed off on Elvis. the CD is comprised of piano compositions with sparse orchestration. Its almost like Painted from Memory sans Bacharach. I like it a lot.

By the way, the CD comes packaged with a bonus DVD containing 3 videos from the album. Enjoy!

This is an absolutely gorgeous album. Most similar to Painted From Memory, but less pop and more art song/classic songbook-styled. I've listened to it once, and I'm just looking for the chance to listen again. Beautiful.

The SACD is due out on November 4, according to a Universal press release.
