Aimee Mann SACD

As we all know, most new hardware requires a "killer app" to compel us to purchase it. I found my personal killer app for SACD in Aimee Mann's "Lost in Space." I'm still waiting for my player to arrive, but even the standard CD layer is an improvement from the initial release. This is most evident on track eight, "Invisible Ink." Being my favorite song on the album I have heard it innumerable times and the difference in the remaster is obvious. One of the most noticeable are the strings, which now sound more like strings as opposed to something synthesized in a machine. Overall I'd say the remaster makes the work three-dimensional, like moving from an overhead view to one on ground level. If you are an Aimee Mann devotee, do not pass this up!

Got it already!!!

Rachael, the big disc cat! I used to be looking for Hi-Vision Laserdiscs & D-Theater tapes, now I'm looking for HD-DVD's and Blu-rays.

I survived the AFI top 100 Film Challenge! I've seen them all.

Dan, she was guitarist and singer for Til' Tuesday. She plays rock music that won't venture into metal...lite rock maybe?...she's an excellent writer IMO, for riff rock.

I consider her the best example of what "pop" music should be - catchy and accessible tunes but with deep and intelligent lyrics - not the "Top 40" stuff we tend to associate with the term. If you saw the movie Magnolia her songs were threaded throughout (and director P.T. Anderson credits her music for generating the film). You can listen to her entire album on aimeemann.com.

I don't have this yet but I am balking at the $31.00 price at Tower.

Anyone find a low price out on the web?

Does CD Universe have a good price?

I would have got it had it been a 5.1 mix as I do like the cd. But I don't think the price is worth a stereo upgrade to a CD I already have.

You may be surprised how much better it would sound. The MoFi remastering team is state of the art and Super Audio does add depth. So you get a new state of the art remastering and hi-def sound. That should equate to better sound on almost any system.

Music Direct has it for $24.99 (linked off of the mofi site). I'm sure it can be had lower...I'll look around.

It's a fantastic release.

One of my favorite discs. Aimee Mann is an incredibly underated artist.

Still can't believe Save Me lost out to Phil Collin's Tarzan song at the Oscars.

I have the CD which came with 2 excellent bonus tracks (on a seperate disc). These 2 tracks are not provided on the SACD.

The CD sounds fantastic, and I don't think the upgrade is worth it - especially since you lose out on the 2 extra tracks and have to pay $38 CDN + tax (which is ludicrous)for a marginal increase in sound quality.

BTW, was this disc pressed at Crest - or does MoFi use a different pressing plant?
