Name some of your favorite album covers

Remember when the artwork that came with your music was large enough to see?

What are some of your all time favorite album covers? I'll start it off with a few of mine:

1) "Buckingham Nicks" (oooh Stevie!:b )

2) almost any cover done by Roger Dean (especially the Yes albums)

Dark Side of the Moon.
Initially I thought the new 30th anniversary version was a bit much, but that's grown on me as well. Most stuff by Thorgerson for the Floyd is pretty good, but this one is classic.

True - Spandau Ballet
An interesting felt-tip pen scribble. Simple, yet evocative.

Zuma by Neil Young - Mazzeo's rough sketch looks like a bootleg, but Young loved it - as do I!

Feats Don't Fail Me Now by Little Feat. Pretty much everything Neon Park has done is A-grade pop art.

All album and single cover of The Smiths.

Muddy Waters At Newport - Muddy clutches John Lee Hooker's and gets his mojo workin'!

Scott 3 by Scott Walker - the eye reflecting Mr Engel? Superb.

Bare Trees by Fleetwood Mac. Stark, haunting image for such an album.

Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison. The sweat and expression on his face sum up the strange intensity this legendary album has.

Surf's Up by The Beach Boys - great image.

Never Mind The Bollocks Here's The Sex Pistols. Years of Yes, The Osmonds and Rod Stewart came crashing to a bloody wreck with the arrival of this seminal record and the cover was a signal to the kicks with soul to KICK OUT THE JAMS like never before! Hey hey, my my...

Smell The Glove by Spinal Tap.
A greased, naked woman on all fours being forced to a smell a leather glove - you call that taste? I do!"F*cking poofter. It's really not that offensive, Sir Dennis..."

Great stuff.

Not exactly on topic, but a band whose covers I've always had an adolescent fascination with, Iron Maiden, has posted the cover art for their next album on their website, ironmaiden.com, and... well... oh God does it suck.

The apoplectic rage being expressed on their forum is highly amusing as well. Despite assurances from the forum mods that the posted art is exactly what will show up on the CD in September, members continue alternately to expound theories that it's a joke, and that the real art will be better; or to organize petitions pleading with the band to change the picture.

Anyway, I've always really liked the cover for Presence by Led Zeppelin. Weird and pretentious in all the right ways.

Daniel Lanois- For the Beauty of Wynona

I love how they've made it safe for American consumption.

I love this photographers work- very vintage erotica-ish. See more of Jan Saudek's work here

That's the one, Gordon.

I don't have first-hand knowledge of the program, but many people on the IM boards assert that the CG characters are in fact stock models from a program called "Poser", which have apparently been used without any modification whatsoever. Leads one to believe that some enterprising band member with a new computer and 15 spare minutes on his hands may be branching out into the wonderful world of "art".

I haven't seen anything this inexplicably bad since Billy Joel's "River of Dreams". And that wasn't really inexplicable, I guess.
