Why are almost all Vanguard SACDs OOP?

I was puzzled that the Maurice Abravanel SACD of Vaughan Williams music is OOP. Thankfully I found a copy. But a search of Amazon shows there were originally 9 Vanguard SACDs, but only 1 is in print. What gives here? Surely they can't be bailing out of the SACD format just because I finally purchased a transport.

They're still behind Super Audio. I have heard that they are working on new releases. I found the Everest Corroboree in print and at Media Play and it is my new classical reference disc.

What may be happening is that a few titles were created in small batches and the label has temporarily run out. This happened some times with Chesky in the early days. Doing a new run is no big deal, though...

Vanguard (classics only, the "other" Vanguard is owned by Welk Music) has been sold to Artemis Records. According to this article. (Scan down a few paragraphs.)

Peter,

Is that the right link? I did not see Artemis mentioned...

Yes. Here's the paragraph:

Quote:
In terms of future Siliverline DVD-A releases, Dean told the audience to watch for upcoming DVD-A discs from Eddie Money, Sammy Hagar, The Mavericks and a second DVD-A release by Gordon Godwin's Big Band. He also hinted at a deal to bring the Vanguard Classics catalog to DVD-A via a licensing deal with the label's new owners Artemis Records.
