Still processing the film; I can't wait to see it again.
My favorite scene in the film(next to Yoda)is when Anakin describes to Padme what he did to the Tuskens. He says:
Quote:
I will even learn to stop people from dying.
Does anyone think that this ties in with Obi Wan and Yoda disappearing when they die in the OT? Perhaps Anakin learns this skill and passes it to them, never knowing that they will eventually use it against him when he turns to the dark side.
One other thing about the "I will even learn to stop people from dying" line. I just can't help but think that Anakin/Vader is remembering that he said that as a young man when he watches the Emperor try to destroy his son with Sith Lightening in ROTJ.
The saga is tying together very nicely.
When he said that, I was also thinking about the fact that he nearly dies in the next film...so maybe his "will power," or whatever you want to call it, has something to do with that.
I'm leaving in about 25 minutes to see it again. This'll be #3.
Another thing about the movie that I really liked was the way, during the last battle, occasionally the camera would jerk-zoom for a closeup of something. Almost gave it a documentary feel at times. Kind of helped to make it seem more real, despite the CGI.
Ever think the Jedi are incredibly "dense" when it comes to sniffing out the dark side of the force? Unless a light saber is smacking their light saber, the Jedi have no idea who's a bad guy. Here's Palpatine right under their nose, and they have no clue.
In the film, either Mace or Yoda says the Jedi's power is diminished, perhaps due to the Sith's reemergence.
Some random thoughts:
Jango Fett wasn't nearly as huge a prescence in the film as I thought, though it is more than Boba's appearance in Empire. I thought he was pretty outmatched when fighting Jedi, though I suppose that's natural when your opponent is a Force user.
I thought the 3P0 gag in the final battle was hilarious! "Kill Jedi! Oops, what am I saying?"
I'm not really sure about Dooku's alliegence. After all, he tried to persuade Obi-Wan into joining him and destroying the Sith. Perhaps he meant for them both to destroy Sideous?
Notice that Dexter says "Damn.", the first time we hear a semi naughty word spoken in a SW film sice Empire. ("I'll see you in hell!")
Has anyone commented on the brief reference to John Ford's The Searchers? It occurs just before Anakin enters the camp in search of his mother. Rather appropriate, I thought--Anakin starts out as Martin and ends up as Ethan.

The scene in ANH when Luke is watching the smoldering ruins of the Lars homestead was also a reference to The Searchers, I beleive.
I still can't get over the amount of beheadings George got away with in this movie. When Darth Maul got split in two I thought he would never get away with anything more than that... boy was I proved wrong. What with Geonosians getting decapitated and split in two, hands being chopped off, and even a human getting decapitated this has got to be a record or something for a PG movie (Darth Maul didn't really count since he was an alien who just had a human shaped body). Oh well, I loved this movie and I'm going to go see it again in about an hour.
Did anyone see Ahmed Best (the actor who did the motion capture for Jar Jar in Episode 1) in the bar in Coruscant. A few others mentioned that Anakin's shadow looked like Darth Vader's helmet on Tatooine and I thought I was going crazy when I came to that conclusion when watching it. Hope they explicitly talk about whether this was intentional or not on the dvd. Gotta go, Star Wars calls.

Here's Palpatine right under their nose, and they have no clue.
How do we know that Palpatine = Sidious = The Emperor? Perhaps, Palpatine is merely a clone that Sidious is using until he can pull the rug out from the feet of the Senate.
Darth Sideous/Palpatine gets the Viceroy of Trade Federation, Nute Gunray, to invade Naboo with his droid army, ensuring that Chancellor Valorum is removed from office for his inability to handle the matter, and Palpatine/Sideous is elected Chancellor. Trade Federation is defeated by Naboo, but Palpatine/Sideous uses his position to secretly ensure that Gunray is still free, in order to use him again if possible (through others as Gunray feels betrayed by Sideous)
Palpatine/Sideous's apprentice, Darth Maul is killed, and Dooku joins up with him in secret and becomes Darth Tyranus.
Dooku/Tyranus kills Jedi Master Sifudious (who I presume is not Sidious, since Obi Wan recognised the name), and employs Jango Fett to go to Kamino as template for clone army. Pretends to be Sifudious and orders Kaminoans to build army, then erases records of Kamino from Jedi archives.
So Palpatine wants the clone army at his command, but he needs Senate to agree to army, and give him the power to control it.
Under pretense of being disillusioned with Republic, Dooku/Tyranus leaves Jedi order, and encourages many systems to want to secede from the Republic. Their is distrust between the Republic and the Separatists, with the result that many in the Republic feel an army is needed to protect them from the Separatists. Under instructions from Palpatine/Sideous, Dooku/Tyranus is also in negotiations with the Trade Federation to get the separatists an army as well, as this will increase the distrust, and make it more likely that the Republic will vote for an army.
Many of the Senators though, led by Padme Amidala and Bail Organa, want to try and negotiate with the separatists, and certainly don't want to create an army as that will lead to war with them. Palpatine/Sideous realises that Amidala is the most vocal opponent of creating an army for the Republic. In addition, her death will mean a lot to Nute Gunray, and encourage him, as Viceroy of the Trade Federation, to lend his support to the separatists. So, presumably, he instructs Dooku/Tyranus to let Gunray know that he will kill Amidala, and gets him to employ Jango Fett, with Zam Wessell, to do the job.
The first attempt fails, and Palptine/Sideous, as Chancellor and former Senator of Naboo, must show concern for Amidala, and suggests 2 Jedi be appointed to protect her. He suggests Obi Wan/Anakin - presumably he thinks the bounty hunters will still be able to do their job, but Zam Wessell fails. Jango kills Zam with a poisoned dart to stop her telling any
