Is it just me or when Camilla takes her clothes off, while Diane is laying on the bed,Camilla's lower area is fuzzed out. Then she gets into bed and they go at it,,later on When Camilla starts saying silencio, and wakes up,they go to the No Band place, and you see a blue hair woman in the balcony,at the end you can see her up close and its a Drag Queen, and she says Silencio, I Think its possible that Diane imagined having sex with Camilla but it was actually this Drag Queen,Why The Fuzz out over Camillas lower half, unless there was something Manly there and Diane just didnt want to see it that way, It just hits me that way,,I Could Be way off though,,I have only seen it once so far.

Shawn:
David Lynch intentionally blurred the nudity in that scene for the DVD at the request of the actress, who did not want picures of her being posted on the internet. It is supposed to be visible in the theatrical release. See this thread:

BTW, welcome to the HTF.

Thanks
Aparently there goes my thinking about that,,I missed it in Theaters, never played around here,,DO'H.
Only thing is,,doing that change can really mess someone up who thinks like me ,If she didnt want to do Nudity why do the film at all,,Im surprised about such a change, especially from Lynch. With a film like this ,even a change like that can screw people over. Oh well my thinking is done with that,,hehe
thanks again

Hmmm... Maybe this shows that despite the artistic focus of DL, he at least respects the wishes of the people he works with. He has certainly earned a little more respect in my opinion from me.

I agree that if the actor doesnt want to do a specific thing, and it gets worked out before filming, and they make a change then,,thats ok. But once its been filmed, and then just to save face later on an actor wants a change,I dont exactly agree with that,,I mean it was filmed and wrapped. If I was her I may want it cut before the film is shown at all,but once its shown,I dont belive they should try and change something, just for this reason,,I dont care if she didnt want to do the nudity,,I could care less,Fine well work thru it,but when a change starts to detract from the integrity of the finished film, thats where I just dont see why?

Shawn,
Much of this issue is ad nauseum at this point; the rest of this thread is filled with the 'battle scars of a raging debate' over censorship (okay, maybe not that dramatic). Nevertheless, I have previously pointed out that the blurring in question was not performed for its own sake, and (for me at least) does not compromise the integrity of Lynch's vision.

Do we have to turn this thread into a debate about the blurring of pubic hair? This matter has already and still probaly is being heavily discussed in the software section. I was enjoying this thread as a place to discuss meaning and what not in the film.

Unless I missed a comment or two here and there in this thread, no one here has mentioned the strange psychic woman that comes to Betty's door that one night early on in the film. The one that says someone in the house is in trouble.
What was up with her?
Also...what is the deal with the color red? Look at how often people are wearing red, and at what points they are wearing it. (Even the Cowboy wears a bright red scarf.)

Spectacular film.
BTW, the academy screener DVD does NOT blur out Harring's nudity. So, there are hundreds of DVD's out there without censorship that could find their way to the internet. Why is she suddenly worried now?

Somebody help me out here. In Roger Ebert's review of Mulholland Drive, he speaks of the sex scene:
Quote:
|
Betty and Rita have two lesbian love scenes so sexy you'd swear this was a 1970s movie, made when movie audiences liked sex. One of the scenes also contains the funniest example of pure logic in the history of sex scenes.
|
Ebert also says this, about the same scene:
Quote:
|
The first lesbian scene is moody and erotic (and contains the movie's best laugh)
|
For the life of me, I can't figure out what he is referencing.
Thanks,
Jon

Betty asks Rita if she has ever done this before, and Rita answers like, "I don't remember."
