Second, what happened between the 20th and 21st viewings. Did it just suddenly become "boring".

I only watched it about one a month. Of course, the first two months I had it, I must have watched it like 10 times, but after that, it was only once or twice a month. I was never bored by it, but this time I was. Hmmm.....Maybe I was just in a bad mood.

BTW, you people that keep track of how many viewings you have of a movie, how do you do it? I've watched thousands of movies over the limited years of my life, and unless I had an extensive database that I kept accurate, there is no way that I'd be able to keep track of that stuff.

Well, I have a spreadsheet with all my DVDs and exact # of viewings per movie. I even put the last date that I watched that movie, so as not to watch it too often. Ooops! I guess it didn't work for Moulin Rouge. It's such a great movie, that I had to watch it almost weekly during the first few months I had it.

There's a ton of movies that I only watch 3-4 times, but for some reason, this movie was so good, it was necessary to watch it this many times.

The only movie which I have seen more than Moulin Rouge is of course, "Halloween" (The original) which I really can not count, because I've seen it over 300 times. When I was 12 years old, I watched it every single day, for 3 months straight. Sometimes even twice a day. Now I watch it only once or twice a year.

Is "Strictly Ballroom" even in the same "style" as MR and R&J?? It's a quirky story, but I don't remember it having the same "coolness" factor as either of the next two films, nor the frenetic editing of MR. In which case basing judgments of "Strictly Ballroom" on those two is pretty unfounded.

Actually, I think there are a number of similarities in the style of Strictly Ballroom, Romeo & Juliet, and Moulin Rouge. All films make use of vibrant bright colors, over the top acting (in a good way), and a very visual style of storytelling. All films are very consciously "theatrical" as well. I believe both Stictly Ballroom and Moulin Rouge begin with movie curtains parting to begin the movie.

The film I've seen the most is Rocky Horror. I've seen it over 300 times.

I have never seen a movie more than 21 times, and I guess I won't ever do so.

Still I believe Moulin Rouge is amazing but that's a point of view from someone who has only seen it twice...!

It's a neurological thing. Your brain has burned in some neural pathways and no longer enjoys the same amount of stimulus as when the movie was "new" to you. With all the neural pathways in place, your brain has gotten so "used" to the film that it is now ignoring it, kinda like if you stare long enough at a certain pattern and after awhile you really don't see it anymore.

I suggest raising your dopamine levels with some Cheech and Chong movies for a while.

Moulin Rouge???

I must admit, I do fall into the category of a typical male when it comes to my movie selection. I have a friend of mine who I usually agree with on most movie selections, swears that Moulin Rouge is an excellent movie. I am appealing to the guys who have watched this movie and enjoyed it. Convince me I should check it out......

Well, I will admit that I probably would not have watched it without my wife's prompting, I did really enjoy it. We rented it, then bought it, and I have even popped it in at times when she's not around. We've recommended it to several friends. Even if musicals aren't your thing, the way they mixed the modern music into 1900 Paris is fun to watch, and visual it's an awesome film as well. I would say check it out.

It's campy, bizzare and very stylistic. Great use of color, and has a lot of fun with the music (though I'm not crazy about some of the covers). I liked it.

It's an interesting fusion of some old movie musical staples with MTV-video style musical numbers. The last word I could imagine to describe it would be "boring." It's high-energy, and a lot of fun.

Plus, it's one of Nicole Kidman's hottest roles, which has got to have some major appeal for all of us typical males!

I love it.

LOVE IT. Definitely a divisive picture. See the 2001 posts on it. Those who love it, LOVE IT. Those who don't...really don't.

It has such high energy that it's impossible to resist. It also is quite funny, and has some deliriously brilliant performances.

It's a gamble...you may hate it.

But you may love it,
Chuck

If you mean you exclusively watch action flicks and such than this movie will hold no appeal to you.

If you have ever strayed and enjoyed a romantic comedy here and there or something less macho, then give it a chance.

I am not a big fan of the movie (saw it once) but I do watch everything.

I own it and I'm still not sure how I feel about it and I like musicals and romantic comedies (of course, only if done well). I don't particularly care for the first 15 minutes of it and I'm not a big fan of Leguizamo. But it's a beautiful looking film and Kidman is gorgeous in it. Be prepared for theatrics and melodrama though. If you are a "guy" you'll probably have a hard time and then never want to see it again.
