First, this should be in the MOVIES section.

(Admin note - thread is now moved to the Movies area).

Second, what happened between the 20th and 21st viewings. Did it just suddenly become "boring".

Do tell.

When I put in Moulin Rouge, I usually just jump ahead to the songs I want hear and listen to it for twenty minutes or so.

Ditto to what Rain said. There are only a handful of movies I've seen 21 times in my whole life, let alone a year!

That's a heckuva Subject Line! Pull up a lawn chair and pop a cold one if people start shoving.

I'm sorry it's lost its magic for you. Revisit it in a couple of years and see what you think.

I'm wondering, how they kept the magic of the film alive.

It's never lost any magic for me, and it never will. I'm confident of that. If it had magic to begin with, which it did, it'll always be there. I may go through phases where it won't be as big a deal to me, but it'll be there, waiting patiently for me to rediscover it again.

Also, I watch it with my husband, who loves it as much as I do.

Hmm, basically a once a month viewing schedule...

and there's a problem? Come on, you've got to be kidding.

There isn't a single film I can make that claim with. At best when I bought the Dazed and Confused LD it got played about 12 times in the first 3-4 months, but most of that was due to requests by friends. That got so bad that my roommate and I put it on hiatus.

Heck, I watched all 4 Fight Club commentaries in one week and had to shelve the film.

It's not like they don't produce some 200 new films every year, plus the 100 years of film that came before now. Somehow I manage to find just a few other films to watch instead of repeating the same film.

I have never, ever seen ANY movie 21 times (not even my favorite movie[s] of all time)! Wouldn't you much rather spend that time seeing 20 other films that you've NEVER seen before?! Or better yet, get a job and a girlfriend man! Then you won't ever have time to watch a movie 21 times.

Rotation is definitely the key to keeping favorite films fresh. When I really enjoy a new release, I make a conscious effort to avoid viewing the film too many times to help ensure its longevity, for me as a viewer. Otherwise I tend to get burned out on the films.

I have old favorites that I generally watch once a year, and others that fit into a two or three year rotation. It does make a difference. I haven't seen The Day The Earth Stood Still for about 3 years, and revisiting the new DVD release was an incredible experience that I likely wouldn't have had, if I'd watched my LD copy in the last year or so.

Tim, my man!
Actually shhh don't tell anyone but I watched 'Final Fantasy The Movie' about 20 times within a few weeks of buying it, I haven't gone off it, yet.:b

As for Moulin Rouge, watched it once, that's it, if I want a musical I'll pop in the greatest of them all 'Singin' in the Rain', which I never tire of watching,
"what a glorious feeling I'm happy again..."

I've never seen "Moulin Rouge" or any other Baz Luhrman film for that matter. Can't stand his "style" of film-making. On the subject of repeat viewings though, I stopped going to the cinema to watch "Enter The Dragon" after my 100th viewing. Of course I've watched the DVD a few times since then. I must have seen Blade Runner well over 100 times too and when the new DVD comes out that number will increase too. When you can quote EVERY line from a movie, you know you've seen it too many times.

I watched 8 times in cinema, many many times in DVD. But I have to stop watching it because there are a lot of DVDs I haven't watch.

Ryan, you talking about 'Enter the Dragon' or 'Moulin Rouge'?
Hey I'm also guilty of seeing 'Enter the Dragon' more times than is really necessary, well over a 100 times, cinema, video and dvd, memorising all the dialogue in the process.. "Man you come right out of a comic-book!", yep ETD is one classic that never loses it's magic.. "Bullshit Mr.Han man!"

Moulin Rouge ALWAYS works for me! It's pure cinema magic, in my eyes.

That said, watching the same film repeatedly will dull the impact. I watched the EE of FOTR 6 times in 10 days (including the commentaries).
