After watching it from Midnight to 2:00 am last night, I initially came away thinking it wasn't THAT disturbing.
|
I felt the same way as I also watched it for the first time last night. I think the reason is that after hearing so many people going on and on about how devastating it was, I made sure to build up a huge concentration of happy vibes before seeing it, which blunted a great deal of the film's disturbing power
At the same time, I thought it was extremely well done and memorable. Oddly, I think the one thing that depressed me the most about the movie was the setting. It reminded me of how Punch Drunk Love looked, as the city looked so deadening that it didn't surprise me that the characters could be as messed up as they were

I have heard here and there that this was a good movie but never knew what it was about. I could have picked this movie up a couple of weeks ago on sale at my local Media Play for I think it was either $6.99 or $8.99, I had it in my hands and then put it down and said to myself I'll catch it on HBO or something. Man, I wish I would have bought it! I am going there today and I hope it is still on sale.

It's a pretty inexpensive DVD, so it should be under $10 at most places.

Why don't more studios use jared leto, he seems pretty good in my opinion..
|
Jared Leto is the lead singer in his band!
Which might be a reason we dont see him in more movies.

Like everybody else,I think it is a masterpiece but I just can't own it.This movie really hurts and I just do not want to reopen any wounds I may have.
I also love the soundtrack! How many people here were sickened by the fact that LOTR:TT used it in its ads.Who approved that?

Clint Mansell approved it, and I think it served the trailer well.
I know I'll watch it again, and I wanted it in my collection. But it isn't a film to watch lightly.
Take care,
Chuck

I have to agree. I was quite pissed that TTT used REQUIEM's score for its trailer. Its my favorite film of all time as I stated in my lengthy post earlier, and I just don't like any other film's using anything from it for their film or its marketing, especially something like the film's brilliant original score. What pissed me off even more was that a friend of mine actually thought the music was created specifically for TTT. You can probably imagine how much that enraged me. I love the film so much, and stuff like that angers me, plain and simple. TTT should've come up with its own bloody score if you ask me, but as is, I lost a good bit of respect for the LOTR people behind this decision.

The vast majority of trailers use existing music. Out of those, the majority use existing film music. The only difference between the use of Requiem's from others is that it had a new mix. All things considered, it's common practice, really.

Yes I discovered this when K-19 used the Gladiator theme with no changes. I posted a big rant about it and was then embarrased to find out that its quite common.

Like I said, Clint Mansell (the guy who wrote the music) did the remix and approved the use in the TTT trailer. Journey to the Line (from The Thin Red Line) was helpful in the Pearl Harbor trailers...but it also got some people to get the TTRL soundtrack and perhaps even watch the film. No doubt the use of said music was a bit of advertising from the ACTUAL movie it was scored for. I feel the same thing applied here. It helped BOTH films...how is that a bad thing?
And again, the creator allowed it and supported it.
Take care,
Chuck
