The Thing - prequel planned (not remake or a sequel)

Exclusive: News On The 1982 Remake Of The Thing - Movie News - Latest Movie Reviews and trailers

Producer Marc Abraham:

*****

"This is more of a prequel than a sequel, there is your exclusive. Its going to be taking place in the same time frame."

"These are the events leading up to the 1982 film."

*****

I love the original "The Thing (1982)" (it´s a undisputed horror masterpiece), so this (prequel) doesn´t sound that bad... Then again, CGI would ruin this in a heartbeat.. Imagine some silly computer-created creature bouncing on the walls etc. Huu, scary.

IMO we still have hope, though (for this "new" film).

Somehow I'm not all that excited. Maybe when we see some images from this "thing".

I'm so bored of prequels. Tell me what happens *next* in the story.

Here's the plot:

Norwegian scientists go to the arctic to study glaciers. They do this for 90 minutes, then find a mysterious object buried in the ice. THE END.

To me, the 1982 film used the original (The Thing From Outer Space) as the prequel to their story, except making them Norwegions. Nonetheless, I'll wait for the DVD on this one.

Yeah, just not getting the prequel designation on this. Kurt Russel's character is born. He eventually becomes a scientist and gets his helicopter pilot's license. Maybe he flies in Vietnam during the war (uhm, police action! police action!). After his honorable discharge he's hired by an organization planning an operation in the arctic. Then...what Russell G said.

There's two things that I'm sure are all but guaranteed with this movie: 1. There will be cheap CG and 2. it will be direct to video so most people won't even notice its release.

This is something that really worries me. I mean real "R-rated horror", monsters and CGI just doesn´t mix. Or they *rarely* really work.
