AICN: Highlander Remake on the Way

The IRON MAN Writers Are Penning A HIGHLANDER Remake!! -- Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

It's official. Apparently the rights were sold to Summit Entertainment, and the Iron Man writers are working on it now.

Please construct a phrase from the following words: "praise damn faint with."

I'm not quite sure how to take this news, except that maybe it's high time someone took the franchise out of Peter Davis's hands, considering the massive dog-rape that was the last film's screenplay "development" process...

...a term I use here mainly to describe Davis/Panzer taking a great script by Peter Briggs and David Abramowitz, running it through a Vegematic of non-WGA scab-hacks, resulting in a film that jerked around like a baby penguin in the jaws of a killer whale.

But mostly I'm concerned about how they're gonna solve the whole "Clancy Brown" problem, if they plan on using THE ALMIGHTY MOTHERFUCKING KURGAN in the flick -- it'd be like recasting Snake Plissken with someone other than Kurt Russell.

(...Oh, wait...)

Re: AICN: Highlander Remake on the Way

I'm actually pretty excited over this news. Highlander had a great concept. The movies weren't too great. I'm hoping they cast a Scotsman as the titular character this time around (of course, other than the title, there's no real reason why he has to be Scottish). I'm just hoping it's not treated like a typical genre film (i.e. get some crazy foreign music video director to direct it, cast someone like Jason Statham, and make it for under $50 mill, and only market it to internet fanboys). I think with a good script, a good director, and a good cast, and a hefty budget, this could be good.

"Here's looking at you, kid."

Re: AICN: Highlander Remake on the Way

I don't know about this. All of the movies didn't do too well in the states. In Europe it was huge. I did like the story of Iron Man but more along the lines of the commentary of the weapons manufacturer in a time of "the war on terror" and I will watch anything with Robert Downey Jr. I loved the original but I also loved the original Black Christmas. And we all know the story of that remake. WE'll see...

Can you tell us more about this? Is there a story somewhere online about it? This stuff interests me.

I love HIGHLANDER with a passion, wanted Chris Lambert to make love to me for years and be roughed up and taken by Clancy Brown, so I take this news, well, not very well. I want to puke right now.

Gee, how much you want to bet it won't be rated R?

Death to PG-13! And now death to DVNR too!!
