Baby Mama - quick review


Overall, the writing for "Baby Mama" just wasn't sharp or incisive enough, and the characters just aren't all that likable. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler just aren't quite able to sustain a cinematic spark between 2 unlikely people put together through surrogacy. The conclusion was telegraphed early, and never found its comic rhythm (because it couldn't decide what was the right tone for the film, and it really languished in the middle act, and limps to a finish).

This isn't to say there aren't some funny lines and moments, there are, but they were few and far between.

I must also add that that marketing totally downplayed the appearances of Steve Martin and Greg Kinnear, and I understood why after seeing the film.

I give it 2 stars, or a grade of C.

Thought it was pretty damn funny. Loved the lines they gave to Amy Poelher's husband, very similar to Dennis on 30 Rock.

I thought it was pretty funny myself, for what it was. I had a nice amount of laugh out loud moments. Not worthy of a purchase, but definitely a rental.

Downplayed.

if i didn't see that you mentioned their names i would have lost money if someone bet me they WERE in the movie.

are they even in any of the previews?

I liked this movie. Nothing amazing but it had some laughs and is more realistic than the commercials and trailer would lead you to believe.

I had no idea that Greg Kinnear and Steve Martin were in the movie either. When they popped up, I figured they just had a one scene cameo but they ended up being supporting characters.
