Hello all,

I just found out that I am pregnant with my first child and hubby & I are both very excited.

We are already talking about baby names and I'd love to come up with something from an old movie or an homage to a great director. I am drawing a blank right now, and hubby has already nixed naming our son "Orson".

I know you guys are all HUGE movie buffs and I wonder if you can think of any cool/unusual names from movies, Any era/genre film is fair game although I tend to love classic films from the 30's onward as well as 1970's films. (I also love 80's and 90's films, but I think I'd like to go for an older reference.) I love Hitchcock, Welles, Kubrick, Altman, Ford, Bogdanovich to name a few. I also have a love of James Bond films, through Roger Moore.

Lead or minor characters will work. One of my all-time faves is Gone With the Wind and I always liked the name of the character India Wilkes. But my husband pointed out there's a pop-star named India.Arie so we pretty much nixed that one.

I'd love to hear what you all come up with!

I'm not really much of a resource for you in the era you're looking for, but I did want chime in to say that my nephew just named his new daughter Eowyn from the Lord of the Rings.

Personally, if it were a boy, I'd name him "Snake Plisken". Only because Kurt Russell is the coolest man on Earth.

If your child's a girl, I think the name Aurora would be nice. I'm presuming you would consider Disney's "Sleeping Beauty" a classic movie.

If your child's a boy, I'd suggest that his first and middle names be Rick Blaine.

Interestingly, the Warner Brothers television logo now uses a brief snippet of "As Time Goes By", just like the movie logo.

Actually, Lew, Joan Fontaine's character in REBECCA is never named. Rebecca was the name of Laurence Olivier's deceased first wife. It's still a nice name. My sister has been happy with it for 28 years.

I love the idea of "Orson" for a middle, rather than a first, name. Have you considered that?

You could also do the whole Doctor Zhivago-thing and name a possible daughter Lara.

I don't know if anyone should actually get stuck with anything resembling this name, but an entertainingly grandiose one is from The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, where the minor character played by John Carradine is a showy public official named Major Cassius Starbuckle.
