Question about E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial "original" version

I've been meaning to ask this. A few years ago I bought the 3 disk set of ET which included the "newest" version and the "original" version. There were also deleted/ not used clips. One of these shows the boy (forgotten name) in the principals office and the chair rises. This seemed quite familiar. I first saw ET in Munich. Could there have been several original version - one which would include the visit to the principal????

Re: Question about E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial "original" version

I'm not sure if it was there internationally but it definitely wasn't in the North American release. One of the reasons the scene was cut in the first place was because the Principal was played by Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg thought it would take the audience out of the movie with seeing (or hearing I should say) such a huge movie star.

Re: Question about E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial "original" version

This scene was also widely shown on entertainment television shows (like Entertainment Tonight)during the film's first year of release. It's possible you saw it on one of those and just forgot about it, but remember the scene.

"If you write a story about a soldier going AWOL and kidnapping a pregnant woman and finally shooting her in the head, it's called searingly realistic, even though it's never happened in the history of mankind. Whereas if you write about two people falling in love, which happens about a million times a day all over the world, for some reason or another, you're accused of writing something unrealistic and sentimental."
-Richard Curtis, Screenwriter and Director

There's also a possibility that you saw it as a publicity shot or a pic in a storybook or trading card, etc. and you're just remembering that. That's the way that people started swearing that they had seen the deleted Biggs scenes in Star Wars.

I believe they also used to show the "Principal" scene on the monitors as you waited in the queue for the E.T. ride at Universal Studios.

Wow...Harrison Ford had a Cameo in E.T. at one point? I'd love to see that clip!
