Re: *** Official 2008 Oscars Nominations List and Forum Discussion Thread
Well, NCFOM pretty much cleaned up in the major categories tonight. Ended up 15/24 in the Oscar picks, a rather bad showing for moi.

Scott Rudin didn't see it coming? What, has he lived in a cave since Oscar season started?

More like judging the importance of each life by how much or little they applaud. Very tasteless to turn it into a popularity contest. There should be one single ovation at the conclusion of the tribute.
So "No Country..." pulled it out by winning 4 Oscars, over apparent runner-up fave "Bourne Ultimatum" with 3 wins.

It was nothing major but she seemed to be making a minor joke about the three character names in the film. I'm not sure if she realizes that the movie is considered one of the greatest ever made.

i thought she was pointing out how movies have changed in 80 years from,
generic names of characters to the importance of the names of the people in the movies.

Renfro wasn't in the academy so he doesn't make it in the in memorium tribute.

Re: *** Official 2008 Oscars Nominations List and Forum Discussion Thread
This show seemed to lack the special quality that past Oscars had, for some reason. It felt kinda rushed.
Highlight for me was seeing the love for Once. Such a beautiful song, and movie, and it was great that Marketa was brought back out to give her speech.
I didn't like Stewart's opening much, and his previous one wasn't that good either. But he was really good for the rest of the show. It didn't seem to get much of a laugh, but I loved his joke about Nicole Kidman's upcoming untitled project according to IMDB.
There were some surprises, and really nice, genuine speeches. It seemed like more people were happier and more emotional in winning than in previous years.

Re: *** Official 2008 Oscars Nominations List and Forum Discussion Thread
Decent show, nice to see the wealth spread around fairly well.
Wins I especially liked: Elswit for There Will Be Blood (Cinematography), Ferretti for Sweeney Todd (Art Direction), Cotillard, and Falling Slowly for best song.
No Country is a worthy choice for Best Picture and Director, but There Will Be Blood is the more original and daring film. I would've liked to have seen a split on those two awards. Anyhoo, I thought it was a great year for film.

There was nothing wrong with Diaz's joke. If anything, the writer should be blamed for it if anyone had a problem with it.
How bad was Jennifer Hudson's delivery?

i only got twelve right. Bourne and the actresses killed me. Though I considered changing on all of them from reading all sorts of people that were calling for those six wins.

Really? That's pretty stupid. Not cool for them to leave him out.

Re: *** Official 2008 Oscars Nominations List and Forum Discussion Thread
how lame to not clap for all the actors and only a select few

Lo, there do I see my mother, and my sisters, and my brothers, Lo, there do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning, Lo, they do call to me, they bid me take my place among them, In the halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live...
