Another "what movie is this" question

My brother doesn't believe in the power of the HTF. He remembers a movie, it might have been black and white, likely from the 50's or 60's. But what he remembers is this: There was a giant flaming head of Satan or some other demonic force and the hero destroyed it with the arm of a crane.

That's about it. A crane. The hero dies too, he says.

Sorry, it's not much to go on, but he maintains that it wasn't a dream and he wasn't on any narcotics at the time.

If you can name that movie, I will give you a cookie.

Sounds like Quatermass and the Pit, though it wasn't the head of Satan. That said, I'm pretty sure it's what you're looking for.

"Five MIllion Years to Earth" was the US Title. "Quatermass and the Pit" was the UK title. Here is a link to the movie at IMDB:

This was a really good movie. It scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.

Re: Another "what movie is this" question

i remember seeing this on local uhf in the 70's as a kid.
it also left an impression on me.
i was thrilled to buy the laserdisc about 13 years ago and then pick up the dvd a few years later.

great movie with some interesting ideas on
Spoiler:
the creation of humans on earth
by a alien species.

also much of the movie takes place on Hobbes lane(or street).

dvd was an anchor bay release probably oop.
also is a dvd that has been known to have "dvd rot", just stops working.

i forgot to add that this was also a remake of a BBC produced mini series of the same name.
not available on dvd but there was a vhs available that i was able to watch.
