Thanks Jose!
I read that SAG members on the nominating panel didn't get screeners of
Atonement until very late, and it's still in limited release, so not enough of them saw it. I was wondering, because it's shocking to me that
Atonement got no nominations at all. I still think it'll get a Best Picture Oscar nomination, and one or more of the cast members will get in too (maybe Knightley and McAvoy, but most likely one of the Brionys (Redgrave, Ronan or Garai).
I also heard that no one from SAG got screeners of
Charlie Wilson's War or
Sweeney Todd, which would explain why no Johnny Depp, Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts or Philip Seymour Hoffman.
I don't know how they could have gotten
There Will Be Blood screeners in time for the ballots, but if I were a SAG member, I'd nominate Daniel Day-Lewis just on the basis of the frickin' trailer. I can't wait to see it!
I'm very happy for everybody, especially Casey Affleck, Amy Ryan, Ryan Gosling, George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, Viggo...really, everybody. I liked all the movies I've seen (now I'm only missing There Will Be Blood, Elizabeth: The Golden Age and A Mighty Heart).
I was sorry not to see Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Jason Leigh on the list because I loved their work in
Margot At The Wedding, but that film was too...much, I guess, for some. I'm also sorry not to see Philip Seymour Hoffman, Laura Linney and/or Philip Bosco in for
The Savages. Hoffman would have deserved 3 nominations, because he also did stellar work in
Before The Devil Knows You're Dead and, though I haven't seen it yet, but I hear, in
Charlie Wilson's War (but again, no screeners went out).
I'm thrilled about the Ensemble nom for
3:10 To Yuma. I agree with all the nominations there, though I would have also been happy to see a
Juno,
Devil,
Gone Baby Gone or
Michael Clayton ensemble nom instead of Hairspray, but that was a fun movie with a great ensemble cast, so I can't fault the nom (I have to admit that I'm so glad that John Travolta didn't get an individual nomination for it).
