I'm sort of on an obscurities (or semi-obscurities) jag right now, and might be for a while. Although I haven't heard of most the stuff Mario watches either... or a lot of other people in this thread, now that I think about it.

Woohoo!
Mr. and Mrs. Iyer - The high iMDB score for this must be because Indians are spoon-fed so much lightweight Bollywood crap that any straight drama seems like a masterpiece. I found it to be a bit of a letdown, especially after the wonderful 36 Chowringhee Lane. Aparna Sen has churned out an Indian version of Crash, with really simplistic messages being inelegantly shoved down your throat. I'm exagerrating a bit, but really... how many shots of terror-related headlines do you think we need to get the point? Her daughter, Konkona Sen Sharma, does a good job, as does her co-lead, Rahul Bose. Their characters are people you care about, though rather lacking in depth. The cinematography is beautiful, and so is the music... but again, too often the music is telling us how to feel. Sen's intentions are admirable, but the execution needs work. Rating: 6

The Cars that Ate Paris
Cheesy B-movie about a town that causes car accidents and sells the parts from the wrecks. Gives no inkling of the A movies that Weir would later go on to make.
"Movies should be like amusement parks. People should go to them to have fun." - Billy Wilder
"Subtitles good. Hollywood bad." - Tarzan, Sight & Sound 2012 voter.
"My films are not slices of life, they are pieces of cake." - Alfred Hitchcock
"My great humility is just one of the many reasons that I am vastly superior to everyone else." - Ramrod Clerk

Re: Track the Films You Watch (2008)
It's comforting to know that although my life and interests may have changed in ways that have cut my participation on the forums to a bare minimum, I can always come back here and read Joe, Mario, and Michael still going at it like old times.
Keep fighting the good fight Martin. Sorry you're pretty much on your own now.
Let's see, game tournaments including a 3-day trip to Indianapolis, work, general exhaustion, and the kids staying up later with school out all combined to make June my lowest viewing month so far this year. I need to find some time to write some S&S reviews as I made a bit of headway there.
George, you may be pleased to know that in July I'll finally be watching a bunch of previously unseen-by-me Billy Wilder and Hitchcock films.
