Re: Track the Films You Watch (2008)
Barbarella
I managed to last thirty minutes by breaking it up through three viewings, the film is remarkably bad in all sorts of hilarious and awful ways. I couldn't take anymore, checked Mr Skin and found out there wasn't any more nudity so I gave up on the movie getting any 'better'.
Jane Fonda is hot though. Was she high when she agreed to do the film? Makes Beyond the Valley of the Dolls look so much better by comparison.

Re: Track the Films You Watch (2008)
The Upside of Anger
Story of a hypermelodramatic alcoholic bitch, who, apparently is that way because her husband ran off with his secretary, taking his wallet and just going away with no notice, and was really a wonderful person before that.
Unlike the bitch in this movie, I don't drink, but watching this steaming pile of crap, I certainly wished I was drunk and passed out while it was playing.

Re: Track the Films You Watch (2008)
The Rookie (2002)
Heartwarming family movie that seems to get better everytime I watch it.
Dennis Quaid plays Jimmy Morris, a high-school baseball coach and teacher who makes a bet with his team. If they can win the district he will try out with any professional baseball team in the area. Jimmy Morris as a kid, had a great passion for baseball. As a young man he didn't get too far due to numerous injuries. He is signed by the Devil Rays and sent to the minors. Eventually he is called up to the majors and at 36 years of age gets to fulfill his dream.
I am such a fan of baseball and this movie is a comfortable fit. Though some of the facts have been changed for dramatic purposes, it's fairly accurate. This is my favourite Quaid performance. He brings such a vulnability and sweetness to the role that I can't see anyone else playing the part. The rest of the cast were also great especially Brian Cox who plays Quaid's dad. I have enormous respect for this actor's talent. He takes this character who is mostly unlikeable, and makes us care about him in the end. This is a good movie for anyone who is frustrated with how their life has turned out. This man's dream did come true.

Mmm, I think I gave this movie 4.5 out of 5 stars. One of my favourites from that year. I found the screenplay well written and actually quite tragic and I was surprised with the turn of events at the end. For me it made the story more tragic just comtemplating the wasted life. I thought this was one of Joan Allen's better performances and Kevin Costner too.
Too bad you had to reveal the ending of the movie. There might still be some people out there that haven't seen it.

Well, it's not like this is a recent release. And in this particular thread, people are discussing movies, and 'spoilers' happen all the time. For myself, I never read anything in this thread about a movie I haven't seen. Nevertheless, I did go back and add spoilers.
As to the movie itself, I can only agree with you on the "tragic" part, though I doubt if we're referring to the same thing.

Fair enough. I was just remembering when I was taken to task for revealing a somewhat important tidbit about a character, a year ago. You're right, this is a movie thread and I've read plenty of spoilers from others so I guess that unspoken rule has been relaxed a bit.

Now that's the kind of spoiler we can all appreciate. (Deletes from Netflix queue.)

Re: Track the Films You Watch (2008)
Pat,
In the interest of full disclosure, I'm not sure if you've been around long enough in these threads to know this, but I have certain things I absolutely detest in movies. Some examples are tons of excessive graphic gore, graphic toilet humor, lazy endings and films that think symbolism in lieu of any kind of plot is great filmmaking. But above all, I absolutely can't stand films that focus on psychotic, emotionally unstable, hyperhysterical characters and their dysfunctional relationships with other psychotic, emotionally unstable, hyperhysterical characters.
Many people love movies like that, and so it's just a matter of taste, but when I'm subjected to one, I tend to be fairly vociferous about my dislike of the movie.

Then why do you still watch them? Have you never enjoyed a film like this? I remember one time you watched THE FRONT with Woody Allen and you said that if you made movies then you'd want to make one like this but you also said that you didn't enjoy the movie because it was too depressing.
I know the gore factor and even the tragic side of films are something that turns a lot of people off. That's probably why most "art" films barely get outside 500 theaters. But at the same time, if someone hates gore then why would they bother watching something like SAW or a Fulci film.
I happen to be one who enjoys sad endings, tragic deaths and emotionally unstable films but quite often I'm not in the mood for them. If I'm depressed or down then I love watching RAGING BULL or TAXI DRIVER. However, if my spirits are up then these films really aren't worth watching.
Which might take us to another level of how we view films. I try not to go against my mood whenever I watch a film. I've had THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER on my DVR for three weeks now and have yet to watch it because I'm really not in the mood for a romantic comedy. If I'm in the mood for gore and violence then I'm not going to put in something like WAITRESS. Kubrick is my favorite director but if my brain is tired then I don't even try to watch one of his films as I believe they're too "head strong" to watch when tired.
It's funny but if you go through my list of movies watched you could probably see what type of mood I was in that day.
