Check out www.batman-on-film.com or AICN and run a search on batman.
There have been conflicting rumors that this is Nolan's next film and that he may do something else before it.
David Goyer, writer of Blade films plus some others I can't remember, is supposedly writing a script for Nolan. But Goyer was just hired to direct and write the next Blade film so I don't know how this fits into his schedule.
I think WB is still trying to get Superman off the ground before another Batman franchise. With WB's track record lately of failed attempts at Superman and other Batman projects, I don't have much faith that WB is going to cash in on the current comic book phase much less get anything to the screen worth watching. Nolan's Batman sounds promising as long as they let Nolan and Goyer work on it without studio interference (see Kevin Smith's take on his Superman experience in An Evening with Kevin Smith).

Along with Christopher Nolan's involvement, the possibility of his Memento star Guy Pearce as Batman/Bruce Wayne could make this a very interesting film.

Ugh. Another small guy like Keaton. When are we going to get a 6'+ guy under the cape and cowl?

Agreed! If memory serves, Batman was 6'1" (or 6'2") at 210 lbs. (I believe one of the comics had his stats way back when.)
I reiterate my statement above: the actor who plays Batman needs to be able to exude intimidation and strength as well as intelligence and wit. The screenwriter and director also need to underline these characteristics for the next Batman film to truly do the mythos justice.
Remember...no matter where you go, there you are.

He's certainly taller than Michael Keaton. The muscle could be added with some training and a special diet.
I want someone like Christopher Reeve or Eric Bana who were good choices for their respective characters because they were relative unknowns (Reeve was on an American soap opera while Bana was a TV comedian in Australia and had a supporting part in Blackhawk Down). Pearce is certainly not as high profile as Ben Affleck, Keaton or even Maguire.

Here should be the next Batman.......
Dominic Purcell, formerly of John Doe. He is only 32 and his salary wouldn't break the budget.
Look he sees the Batsignal....
Just picture a cowl and the car as the batmobile...

Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

An inch. And while weight training could help, I don't know that it could reproduce a lifetime's worth of training. Still, we'll see either way, right?

well, pearce used to be a bodybuilder. and the body never forgets that sort of thing.
but at any rate, i'm all for hiring unknowns - i hate seeing a character on screen and thinking "hey. it's george clooney", or "hey. it's guy pearce". it's distracting.
the best example for me is the casting of hugh jackman as wolverine: i had never heard of him before i saw x-men, so now whenever i see him i think "hey. it's wolverine".
that's the way i'd like to experience a batman movie.

I think Pearce is more than an inch taller than Keaton. I'm just going on what's been rumored and he seems like the best choice out of all of them. I don't want him in the role if he's not going to make the effort to build his body up, Keaton didn't seem to make much of an effort for Batman but he did for Desperate Measures.
I don't feel he has to be so close to the comic short of putting a bodybuilder in the part. Christopher Reeve looked great and he was just well sculpted, not muscle bound in the least.
Look at it this way, considering the likes of Brad Pitt was rumored to be in the running, I think Pearce would be a decent choice.
I'll probably go see it anyway, I just don't know if I would rush to the theater to see Colin Farrell as Batman.
How about Clive Owen? I can see him doing some damage with or without the cowl.

Per the IMDB, Guy Pearce is 5'11". That's hardly short. THough it is just an inch more than Michael Keaton.
