Yeah I can see that as a twist ending. Mark Walhberg realizes he's not even Mark Walhberg the actor but M. Night Shyamalan, the director, lol.

And especially considering that Gilliam had just finished making the Brothers Grimm.

I remember that as well, it was right after (and about) War of the Worlds.

Re: M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening
Gilliam is a tad bitter these days. Although if that statement was for WotW I have to agree. That film had a lot of problems. But at the same time it had some of the best scenes Spielberg has ever put on film. I'm contantly rocked by how everthing looks...but at the same time I'm groaning at some of the story elements. People were also generally annoyed by the girl's screaming. That didn't bother me so much, a real child would scream at practically everything that happens in the film. The son character was realistic up until he wants to join the forces. Puh-leez! And that Spielberg ending had everybody in the theater gasping...and not in a good way. ...but taking up for Spielberg, not all his films are just great scenes. Often they are great as a whole. I'll pay for every Spielberg film that hits the theaters without a second thought about it. Same for Gilliam. Although Tideland didn't come to my tiny town.
I haven't seen Deathproof yet. Definitely on my list. Are there riverboats and dirty pre-teens who smoke and cuss and stuff in it? Hell, I hope so!!

I'm a huge fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000. I had the episode "Teenage Caveman" recorded and watched it often.
|
 I thought this same thing.
Watched the trailer for this last night, if this is played as a "something is making us all extinct" then it could be very interesting, just played very straight. A good Stephen King "The Stand" type element (without the Vegas showdown) or something similar. I'd go for that.
Hell, I need to watch "The Stand" miniseries again sometime.

Re: M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening
This has received an R rating. Shyamalan's first movie with an R.

That seems to be the major theme of the marketing for this film. Big red "R" and all.
The trailers are underwhelming, IMO.

Re: M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening
I want to see what Shyamalan will do when he's not making his usual PG-13 movie but using the R rating as a marketing gimmick is just plain weird.

not gore at all.,
i can see why the movie would be an "r" due to what happens
from the continuation of those scenes from the red trailer.

Re: M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening
I saw a TV spot that kept emphasizing it was his first R rated movie. I think that's pretty pathetic, marketing the movie in that manner.

Yeah, it kind of implies that that's the most interesting thing/marketable feature about the film.
