Re: M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening
I'm eager to see it. I know many disliked The Village and Lady in the Water but I found both to be quite good (Lady in the Water being the better of the two). Neither can match the quality of Unbreakable but that goes for all of his films in general IMO.
In the end, I know at the very least I'll have another brilliant James Newton-Howard score to listen to endlessly. When he works with Shyamalan he tends to create some of his best music. Folks can say what they will about Lady in the Water but the score for the film was one of my absolute favorites of '06.

Re: M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening
I like every film I have seen by this guy, including all five starting with "The Sixth Sense" through "Lady in the Water". As far as I am concerned, he is a great film maker and I look forward to whatever he makes next. I won't pay much attention to the hype or criticism and just watch the film when I get a chance with an open mind.

Yeah, it's certainly an over simplification but I'm not talking about critical reception or even its reception among movie fans with an informed opinion, I'm talking about the average person. I can't tell you how many times I've heard people that I work with or radio DJs or online columnists (MSN, Yahoo, etc.) complain about his movies. They seem to have hated every movie he's made since The Sixth Sense but also look forward to every new movie he makes.
The only post-Sixth Sense Shyamalan movie that I haven't liked is Lady In The Water and I even want to give it another shot since the guy is so damn good.

I've been meaning to get it. Definitely a highlight of the film, and a showcase of how a wonderful score can make a rather insipid effort very watchable.

me too.
i did end up really not liking the village even a little bit.
no one has said what they thought of M's first film.
starring
i look forward to trailers for his films too.
the preview for Lady was one of the best and haunting i have ever seen.

Re: M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening
I actually find Village to be nearly his best film (can't top Unbreakable). I recognize how people could find a lot of things wrong with it, but I can't help but be drawn toward it. The dialogue, structure, aesthetics (expecially music), work for me on every level. I particularly like how Bryce...Howard gradually becomes the main character- much like Tommy Lee in No Country.
Should I watch that teaser?
Looking forward to this one.

Re: M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening
That was, I think, an impressive teaser. Suspenseful, shocking, and some terrifying images (the scene where the guy looks up, for one). I liked it.

Re: M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening
Very much impressed. We all know better than to stake the quality of a movie on a teaser/trailer, but now that I think about it, his first 3 major flicks (and best IMO) had badass teasers/trailers as well, while I can barely remember those of The Village and Lady in the Water

Re: M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening
I dunno ... the teaser looks like Signs redux.
Night really should try something totally different.
