Before The Devil Knows You're Dead (2007)

I was hoping someone had already started a thread on this new Sidney Lumet film.
Wasn't really in the mood to say anything intelligent or reviewy.

No, my motives were quite simple.

Marisa Tomei is much on display here and has the body of a women half her age. This is not hyperbole.

I agree. Marisa looks really great nude. Not just once, but a few times.

Call me what you will, but I'm there for my boy, Philip Seymour Hoffman, who is probably one of my favorite actors.

Marisa is a bonus, natch!

Hoffman is amazing here. Early in the movie, I thought the "devil" in the title referred to him, but as the movie goes on, Lumet and Hoffman peel away that notion. He might not be sympathetic, but, "everyone has their reasons."

And yes, Tomei looks great. Even if I don't completely buy the events that follow when it goes all out of control, this is a riveting picture.

Can someone tell me what the talk between Finney and Hoffman was outside the house when all the funeral guests stopped by? Some guy was talking on his cell phone in the theater, and another person confronted the guy, so I was distracted during that scene.

Thi,

The following is what I recall. Putting it in spoilers since others may come in here without the "discussion" thread tag.

Spoiler:

Finney tells Hoffman that he's sorry for not being the father Hoffman wanted, but he tried. Then Hoffman tells Finney that he knows he wasn't the son Finney wanted, and that they are so different. He then says something like "are you even sure I'm your son," at which point Finney slaps Hoffman.

If you caught the following scene with Hoffman and Tomei in the car, the Finney-Hoffman conversation should fit in.
