*** Official 30 DAYS OF NIGHT Discussion Thread
The worst part was when they "skipped" a reel. After Hartnett returns to the station which cuts to the overhead shot outside...

Sounds like a pretty accurate adaptation of the comic book...

Re: 30 days of night
The most inept vampires in the history of vampires
Seriously,
If a group of vampires can't clear out a small town like that given 30 Days of Darkness they the must be the worst vampires ever.
Save for about three scenes this was the one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen.
I really wanted to like this one too.
Who ever said this was a new vision of the vampire must have cataracts.
Also,
I found the fact that the vampires seemed to be hampered by bad weather to be quite
amusing.
Sounds like something out of Python .

So it wasn't just me. It seemed like they cut a whole lot out of the beginning. Josh Hartnett goes from seeing one person dead to screaming over his squad car's megaphone for everyont to get indoors. Not to mention the town telling him they're scared because they "heard shots." I didn't hear any. I didn't see any. There were no shots.
After that I wish they would have skipped a couple of reels since the movie consisted of people waiting around for sunlight. Yep, sitting around quietly twiddling their thumbs.
I award the film no points, and may God have mercy on their souls.

that made sense though. he's not a super cop from New York, he's some hick kid who got the position in a dumb town full of awkward rednecks who know everybody. After seeing the phones all burned, all the sled dogs slaughtered, then a dudes head on a stick... I think a total bug shit freak out is plausible.
and there were gunshots, wasn't the dog dude shooting that rifle while Josh was screaming on the megaphone?

They never said Hartnett was a dumb hick. That's a little too much juxtaposing on your part. He was pretty competent at apprehending the drifter. Also, the dog dude didn't start shooting until after the townspeople made their proclomation about gunshots fired. All of the lead-up events could easily have been done by that drifter, who was already in custody, and his proclomations of "They're coming" would just be the ravings of a lunatic.
Speaking of, what was the point of the cell phones being burned? It wasn't everyone's in town. Hartnett still had his.
And did anyone else think the main Vampire spoke Klingon? Really, it was a bunch of gutteral grunts and clicks. Sounded like klingon to me.

Re: *** Official 30 DAYS OF NIGHT Discussion Thread
Overall, I was disappointed by this. The vampire attacks were pretty creepy. But I kept expecting Hartnett's character to do something smart to take back their town (particularly after that speech about how they live up there because they like it, and how they know the town). But turning himself into a vampire and punching another vampire in the mouth wasn't it.
And yes, the vampires were pretty dumb. They cut off the power to the buildings, which means all the people in hiding will freeze (or should have, anyway...). How are they going to suck their blood then?

Re: *** Official 30 DAYS OF NIGHT Discussion Thread
Didn't care for it. I think they made the Vampires to agile. The constant shrieking was annoying. Hartnet still can't act. There were also tons of plot holes. After all the cell phones were found burned, Hartnet was talking to his woman on a cell phone, but it was never used after that.
The only part I liked was when Flass went crazy with the Dozer and blowing away the vamps. (though the box of dynamite should have made a WAY bigger explosion).
Visuals were all right and the beheading scene was kewl, but a forgettable movie.

Re: *** Official 30 DAYS OF NIGHT Discussion Thread
Well, let's point out the positives:
The vampires looked cool and they were somewhat scary.
The beheading scene was indeed very cool. I'm very surprised they were able to show that. Brought me back to the 80's gore (the good old days).
Can't think of anything else right now.
