Re: 2008 at the Box Office

That may be the case this weekend David.

Based on the strength of the early ticket sales, industry-wide predictions for the opening of the 'Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus' flick are now running in the $15-$20 million range. The movie will only be showing in 684 theaters.

It'll be interesting to see just how strong an opening the movie will have this weekend.

Given that the tour is sold out wherever it goes, and the target audience likes to see their favorites multiple times, I'm guessing that Best of Both Worlds will make around $80 million domestically over its theatrical run.

Isn't that because it's a 3D film, limited only to those theaters that can host 3D?

The blurb at Studio Briefing also says this film is to be shown for one week only. Even sold out, $80m will be hard to do on only 684 screens in a single week.

Re: 2008 at the Box Office

Yep, the movie is in 3D.

I'm thinking that if (and I stress if) the movie has a big opening the studio will keep it in theaters at least another week to "test the waters" so-to-speak.

Re: 2008 at the Box Office

I had no idea it was a limited run. In that case, my estimate is pretty high. I still don't think $40 million over one week is out of the question though.

OMG, some theaters are having round-the-clock showings of this 3D movie.

It for sure will have an enormous opening weekend... but will there much demand afterwards after the fans and pre-teen girls see it?

There were lines hanging around outside the IMAX in Olathe, so yeah, it's going to do really well this weekend.

I think this is a sign of the failure of modern parenting. Why are 12 year olds going to 2 am movie screenings?
