10,000 Years BC
I tried searching for a thread for this movie. But, the search came up empty. Just wanted to make a quick comment about how cool it is that just 10,000 years or so. Their were so many different animals that are gone...Mammoths, Sabre Tooth Tigers plus others I am sure they show.
Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

Roland Emmerich takes a lot of heat but I'll plunk down the cash to watch his films in a theater. At least they always look good.
I'm an Earth Science teacher and I plan on offering extra credit for reviews of this film. Hell, I may even try to set up a movie night with my students.

Re: 10,000 Years BC
Is that the Pyramids being built with Mammoths??
Was this real, or just to please the crazy Creationists who say the earth is only a few thousand years old?

I saw this commercial last night...I believe it's a fantasy movie, not a documentary.

Well I didn't think it was a documentary!
I know it's a fantasy, but I thought it was an historically factual as far as setting goes fantasy using real creatures in real life set-ups.
I was just wondering if mammoth's were indeed still around then, or are they putting already extinct creatures in Egypt for some reason.

As far as I know, the last mammoths went extinct around 8,000 years ago, with dwarf mammoths on Wrangel Island dying out around 4,000 years ago.
Although it is not shown in the trailer and if, in fact, the film takes place in prehistoric Egypt, The Sphinx at Giza is considered by most Egyptologists to be around 4,500 years old. But, if you believe the geologists who claim that water erosion around the Sphinx (coupled with the disproportionately sized human head*) shows that the Sphinx was constructed far earlier, say 4,000 years earlier, then the time frame of living mammoths and the construction of monuments in Egypt kind of fits. I say "kind of" because the film takes place 12,000 years ago. I think it's safe to assume that the culture constructing temples or monuments in the film pre-dates the Egyptian civilization we know today.
Just my two cents.
*The human head may have been carved from the existing structure's head, which was probably a lion. The Ancient Egyptians may have carved the face of the Pharaoh in the monument, kind of like when Zod changed Mount Rushmore in Lester's Superman II. ]
PS. Please -- Let's stay on track: No Donner/Lester Supes II discussion.

Re: 10,000 Years BC
Are we sure these were Egyptians? They certainly don't have the monopoly of pyramids. And it is also my understanding that 10,000 BC is way to early for the kind of civilization that could engineer and build such massive structures, no?
I've not exactly studied the trailer, but it looked to me like some fictional civilization full of vapid, plastic, personality-free fashion models with weird accents.

Sounds like the typical Hollywood blockbuster of today.
There is no reason to think this film is "realistic".

Re: 10,000 Years BC
I'm going for the mammoths and sabre-tooth tiger. Emmerich automatically means plausibility and historical/scientific accuracy weren't ever concerns for the film - I'm OK knowing that going in.
I'm going to view this as the unofficial sequel to One Million Years BC.
