Re: This Can't Be True! Reeves in The Day The Earth Stood Still Remake!

This thread inspired me to look for and find the text to the original short story that was the source material for the original Robert Wise film.

It's interesting to read, though I only read the first 3 pages and it's quite different. It's called Farewell to the Master, written by Harry Bates and published in 1940 in Astounding Science Fiction magazine.

Klaatu is there and Gort is called Gnut. Should be an interesting!

Looks better than any Day The Earth Stood Still remake with Keanu Reeves in it has any right to.

What the hell are those explosions in the trailer? Does this signify that, in this version, Klaatu fails and the earth is destroyed?

Unless the reviews are stellar, I will be staying home and spinning the original in the home theater.

This looks amazingly bad!

The only part that looked remotely interesting was the split-second shot of Gort at the very end.

Unless reviews turnout out to be overwhelmingly positive and prove that this is just a horrendous trailer, I will stay home.

The trailer makes this film look closer to "Independence Day" than "The Day The Earth Stood Still"

While I was happy to see that the new Gort is at least inspired by the original, I didn't see anything in the trailer that was amazingly bad. In the brief scene with Reeves, I thought he was fine. The stadium collapse, I took to be part of the alien demonstration of power.

After reviewing the trailer, I now realize there are no "explosions." We see a large truck and a stadium disintegrating, not exploding.

I'm thinking the casting of John Cleese is either a very brave and brilliant choice or a very boneheaded decision. He's either got to be right on, or it's a glaring mistake. I also noticed over at IMDB that Kathy Bate's character has no name yet.
