Character actor Charles Lane passed away at 102!

Anybody into classic film or television has seen this long-term character actor. He's been in several of the best comedies ever made. Needless to say, he lived a long and productive life.

Re: Character actor Charles Lane passed away at 102!

It would be hard for some to understand how the passing of a 102 year old man can sadden me, but this does. His career extended from just after the dawn of the sound era to today (I understand he was participating in a documentary about his career). If memory serves, wasn't he one of the original members of the SAG?

From all accounts his health was remarkably good until the end. Filmfax magazine printed a good interview with him several issues back. He certainly wasn't shy about sharing his opinions!

As soon as I saw his picture, and the mention that he was in It's a Wonderful Life, I knew exactly who he was. RIP Mr. Lane.

God Bless Him! He was in just about every classic television show that there was....and some great movies. Every year, as he turned older, I would cheer him on...just the longevity. Wow, what a wonderful life!

Re: Character actor Charles Lane passed away at 102!

Of all the things I've read about Mr. Lane since his passing I got the biggest kick out of the following excerpt from the NY Times because it shows just how prolific he was:

Quote:

On at least one occasion, he was quite astonished to see himself turn up in a movie he had paid good money to see.

How great is that? Even greater is his 70 year marriage to his one and only wife, Ruth.

I hope the documentary on his life surfaces soon.
